എഡ്ഗാർ ഫോവ്സെറ്റ് 1847 മെയ് 26 ന് ന്യൂയോർക്ക് നഗരത്തിലാണ് ജനിച്ചത്. ജീവിതത്തിലെ കൂടുതൽ കാലം ചിലവഴിച്ചതും അവിടെത്തന്നെയാണ്. കൊളമ്പിയ കോളജിൽ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം ചെയ്യുകയും 1867 ൽ അവിടെനിന്ന് A.B. ബിരുദംകരസ്ഥമാക്കുകയും മൂന്നു വർഷങ്ങൾക്കു ശേഷം M.A. ബിരുദാനന്തരബിരുദം നേടുകയും ചെയ്തു. കൊളമ്പിയ കോളജിൽവച്ച് അദ്ദേഹം "Fraternity of Delta Phi" യിലും [1] "Philolexian Society" അംഗമായിരുന്നു.[2]
