കേരളത്തിലെ ഒരു പ്രമുഖ സ്ത്രീരോഗവിദഗ്ദ്ധയാണ് ഡോ. ഷീല ബാലകൃഷ്ണൻ.[1][2]2013-ൽ ദക്ഷിണേന്ത്യയിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ ഇൻ-വിട്രോ ഫെർട്ടിലൈസേഷൻ (ടെസ്റ്റ് ട്യൂബ് ശിശു) വിജയകരമായി നടത്തിയത്ത് ഡോ. ഷീലയും സംഘവുമാണ്.[3]ഇവർ സ്ത്രീരോഗങ്ങളെപ്പറ്റി മൂന്ന് പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ എഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.[4][5] ഡോ. ഷീല ഇപ്പോൾ തിരുവനന്തപുരം മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജിലെ സ്ത്രീരോഗവിഭാഗത്തിൽ അസോസിയേറ്റ് പ്രൊഫസറായി ജോലിചെയ്യുന്നു.
