വാർവിക്ക് ഡീപ്പിംഗ്
ജോർജ്ജ് വാർവിക്ക് ഡീപ്പിംഗ് (ജീവിതകാലം : 28 മെയ് 1877 – 20 ഏപ്രിൽ 1950) ഒരു അമേരിക്കൻ നോവലിസ്റ്റും ചെറുകഥാകൃത്തുമായിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രശസ്തമായി നോവൽ 1925 ൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ട “Sorrell and Son” ആയിരുന്നു.

എസെക്സിലെ സൌത്ത്എൻറ്-ഓൺ-സീയിലെ ഒരു ഡോക്ടർ കുടുംബത്തിൽ ജനിച്ച് വാർവിക്ക് ഡീപ്പിംഗ് വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം ചെയ്തത് മർച്ചൻറ് ടെയ്‍ലേർസ് സ്കൂളിലായിരുന്നു. അവിടെനിന്ന് കേംബ്രിഡ്ജിലെ ട്രിനിറ്റി കോളജിൽ സയൻസും വൈദ്യശാസ്ത്രവും പഠിക്കുകയും വൈദ്യശാസ്ത്രപരിശീലനത്തിനായി മിഡിൽസെക്സ് ഹോസ്പ്പിറ്റലിൽ ചേരുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഒന്നാം ലോകമഹായുദ്ധകാലത്ത് റോയൽ ആർമി മെഡിക്കൽ കോർപ്സിൽ സേവനം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. ജോലി ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചതിനുശേഷം ഒരു മുഴുവൻ സമയ എഴുത്തുകാരനായി ജീവിക്കുവാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു. ഫിലിസ് മൌഡെ മെരിൽ എന്ന വനിതയെ വിവാഹം കഴിക്കുകയും സുറെയിലെ വെയ്ബ്രിജഡ്ജിലുള്ള ഈസ്റ്റ്ലാന്റ്സിൽ ബാക്കിയുള്ള കാലം ജീവിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
1920 മുതൽ 1930 വരെയുള്ള കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ കൂടുതൽ വിറ്റഴിക്കപ്പെട്ട ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങളുടെ രചയിതാവായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം. ഇക്കാലത്ത് വില്പനകൂടുതലുള്ളവയിൽ 7 പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറേതായിരുന്നു. ഒരു നല്ല ചെറുകഥാകൃത്തുകൂടിയായിരുന്ന ഡീപ്പീംഗിൻറെ രചനകൾ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് മാഗസിനുകളായ “Cassell's”, “The Story-Teller”, “The Strand” എന്നിവയിൽ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. അതുപോലെതന്നെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറെ ഫിക്ഷൻ കഥകൾ “Saturday Evening Post” “Adventure” പോലെയുള്ള നിരവിധി യു.എസ്. മാഗസിനുകളിലും പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. ബ്രിട്ടനിൽ മുമ്പ് പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന ചെറുകഥകളുടേയും നോവലുകളുടേയും പുനപ്രസിദ്ധീകരണങ്ങളായിരുന്നു യു.എസ്. മാഗസിനുകളിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകിരക്കപ്പെട്ടത്. ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് മാഗസിനുകളിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്ന അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറെ 200 ൽപ്പരം ചെറുകഥകളും ലേഖനങ്ങളും മുമ്പ് പുസ്തകരൂപത്തിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നില്ല. ഈ രചനകൾ ഇപ്പോൾ “ലോസ്റ്റ് സ്റ്റോറീസ്” എന്ന പേരിൽ ലഭ്യമാണ്.
