അമേരിക്കൻ ഐക്യനാടുകളിൽ ജോർജിയയിലെ ബ്യൂണ വിസ്തയ്ക്ക് സമീപത്തായി 7 ഏക്കർ (28,000 ചതുരശ്ര കിലോമീറ്റർ) വിസ്തീർണ്ണമുള്ള പുരയിടമാണ് പസാക്വാൻ. സ്വയമേവ “സെന്റ് ഇയോം” എന്നു വിളിച്ചിരുന്ന എഡ്ഡി ഓവൻസ് മാർട്ടിൻ (1908–1986) എന്ന അരക്കിറുക്കനായ നാടോടി കലാകാരനാണ് ഇത് സൃഷ്ടിച്ചത്.[2] പുനർ‌രൂപകൽപ്പന ചെയ്ത 1885 കളിലെ ഒരു കളപ്പുര, ചായം പൂശിയ കോൺക്രീറ്റ് ശില്പങ്ങൾ, 4 ഏക്കറിൽ (16,000 ചതുരശ്ര കിലോമീറ്റർ) ചായം പൂശിയ കൊത്തുപണികളോടുകൂടിയ മതിലുകൾ ഉൾപ്പെടെ ആറ് പ്രധാന ഘടനകളാണ് ഈ അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര പ്രശസ്‌തമായ കലാകേന്ദ്രത്തിലുള്ളത്.[3] 2008 സെപ്റ്റംബറിൽ, ചരിത്രപരമായ സ്ഥലങ്ങളുടെ ദേശീയ രജിസ്റ്ററിൽ നാമാവലി ചെയ്യുന്നതിനായി പസക്വാനെ സ്വീകരിച്ചു. 2014 നും 2016 നും ഇടയിൽ കോഹ്ലർ ഫൌണ്ടേഷനും കൊളംബസ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയും ചേർന്ന് പസാക്വാന്റെ പുനഃസ്ഥാപനം നടത്തിയിരുന്നു.[4]

എഡ്ഡി ഓവൻസ് മാർട്ടിൻ[തിരുത്തുക]

1908 ജൂലൈ 4 ന് ജോർജിയയിലെ മരിയൻ കൌണ്ടിയിൽ ഗ്ലെൻ ആൾട്ട ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ ഒമ്പത് അംഗങ്ങളുള്ള ഒരു ഓഹരിദല്ലാൾ കുടുംബത്തിലാണ് എഡ്ഡി ഓവൻസ് മാർട്ടിൻ ജനിച്ചത്.[5] പിതാവിൽ നിന്നുള്ള പീഢനത്തെത്തുടർന്ന് 14 വയസ് പ്രായമുള്ളപ്പോൾ വീടു വിട്ടുപോയ മാർട്ടിൻ ന്യൂയോർക്ക് നഗരത്തിലെത്തുകയും അവിടെ ഒരു ലൈംഗികത്തൊഴിലാളിയായി ജോലിയെടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.[6] പ്രായപൂർത്തി സംബന്ധമായ നിയമങ്ങളാൽ 1942-ൽ അദ്ദേഹം ഒരു വർഷത്തെ തടവിന് ശിക്ഷിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. 1943 മാർച്ച് 17 ന് ഫെഡറൽ നാർക്കോട്ടിക് ജയിലിൽ നിന്ന് മോചിതനായ ശേഷം അദ്ദേഹം ഭാവി പ്രവാചകനായി ജോലി ചെയ്തു.[7] 1986 ഏപ്രിൽ 16 ന് അദ്ദേഹം ആത്മഹത്യ ചെയ്തു.[8]

ഉത്ഭവം[തിരുത്തുക]

ഒരു ആത്മാവിനാൽ പ്രചോദിതനായി പസാക്വോയനിസം എന്നൊരു മതം സൃഷ്ടിക്കാൻ മാർട്ടിൻ ഒരുമ്പെട്ടു. അതിന്റെ അംഗങ്ങൾ പസാക്വോയൻസ് എന്ന് വിളിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ആത്മാവ് മാർട്ടിന് "സെന്റ് ഇയോം" എന്നും പേരിട്ടു.[9] നൈസർഗ്ഗിക ലോകവുമായുള്ള ബന്ധവും മുടിയുടെ ഉപയോഗവും പസക്വോയനിസം ഊന്നിപ്പറയുന്നു. സ്പാനിഷ്, ചൈനീസ് മൂല ഭാഷകളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള "പസാക്വാൻ" എന്ന പദം ഭൂതകാലം ഒത്തുചേരുന്ന" എന്നർത്ഥമാക്കുന്നു.[10]  1950 ൽ മാതാവ് അന്തരിച്ചതിനുശേഷം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് വീടും നാല് ഏക്കർ പുരയിടവും മാതാവിൽനിന്ന് അവകാശമായി ലഭിച്ചു. സഹോദരൻ ജൂലിയസുമായുള്ള ഒരു തർക്കത്തെത്തുടർന്ന് മാർട്ടിൻ 1957 ൽ തന്റെ ഭാവി പ്രവചന വ്യാപാരം ഇവിടേയ്ക്ക് മാറ്റി.[11] ഭാവി പ്രവചനത്തിലൂടെ ലഭിച്ച വരുമാനം ഉപയോഗിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹം വർഷങ്ങൾക്കൊണ്ട് ഭൂസ്വത്തിനെ പരിവർത്തനം ചെയ്തെടുത്തു.[12]

നിർമ്മാണം[തിരുത്തുക]

മാർട്ടിൻ തന്റെ പുരയിടത്തിലെ ആദ്യ മതിൽ നിർമ്മിക്കുന്നതിനായി പ്രകൃത്യാ ലഭ്യമായ നാടൻ വസ്തുക്കൾ ശേഖരിക്കുകയും അദ്ദേഹത്തെ സഹായിക്കാനായി ഡി. ഡബ്ല്യു. മിൽനർ എന്ന വ്യക്തിയെ നിയമിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.[13] അദ്ദേഹം നിർമ്മിച്ച മോടി പിടിപ്പിച് ആദ്യകാല വേലി തടികൊണ്ടു നിർമ്മിച്ചതിനാൽ ജീർണ്ണിച്ചു  നശിച്ചു.[14] എഡ്വിൻ സ്റ്റീഫൻസ് എന്ന വ്യക്തി മാർട്ടിന് സാങ്കേതിക നിർമാണ വൈദഗ്ധ്യവും ഒരു വൈകാരിക ബന്ധവും നൽകി.[15] 10 വർഷത്തെ നിർമ്മാണത്തിനുശേഷം, മാർട്ടിൻ തന്റെ വ്യക്തിപരമായ പരിചിതരിൽനിന്ന് പ്രചോദനം ഉൾക്കൊണ്ട് തന്റെ നിർമ്മിതികളിൽ ചിത്രങ്ങൾ വരയ്ക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി.[16]

ഉടമസ്ഥാവകാശ കൈമാറ്റം[തിരുത്തുക]

മരിയൻ കൌണ്ടി ഹിസ്റ്റോറിക്കൽ സൊസൈറ്റി 1986-ൽ പസക്വാന്റെ ഉടമസ്ഥാവകാശം ഏറ്റെടുത്തു. സൈറ്റിന്റെയും മാർട്ടിന്റെ മറ്റ് വിവിധ പണികളുടേയും പരിപാലനത്തിനായി ഒരു പ്രത്യേക സമിതി രൂപീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. സമുച്ചയത്തിലേയ്ക്കു ശ്രദ്ധ കേന്ദ്രീകരിക്കുന്നതിനായി കമ്മിറ്റി പിന്നീട് വിവിധ വസ്തുക്കളിൽ നവീകരണം നടത്തി. ഈ കമ്മിറ്റിയിൽ നിന്ന് പസാക്വാൻ പ്രിസർവേഷൻ സൊസൈറ്റി ഉടലെടുക്കുകയും 2014 വരെ പസാക്വാൻ പ്രവർത്തിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.[17] പസക്വാൻ പ്രിസർവേഷൻ സൊസൈറ്റി അതിന്റെ പുനഃസ്ഥാപനത്തിന് ധനസഹായം നൽകുന്നതിനായി 2014 ൽ പസാക്വാനെ കോഹ്ലർ ഫ ണ്ടേഷനിലേയ്ക്ക് കരാർ നൽകി.[18][19][20] 2016 ൽ വീണ്ടും തുറന്നതിനുശേഷം കോഹ്ലർ ഫൌണ്ടേഷൻ പസാക്വാന്റെ ഉടമസ്ഥാവകാശം കൊളംബസ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിലേക്ക് കൈമാറ്റം നടത്തി.[21]

പുനസ്ഥാപനം[തിരുത്തുക]

2004 ൽ, പസാക്വാൻ പരിപാലിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള സഹായത്തിനായി പസാക്വാൻ പ്രിസർവേഷൻ സൊസൈറ്റി കോഹ്ലർ ഫൌ ണ്ടേഷനോട് അഭ്യർത്ഥന നടത്തി. പദ്ധതി 2014-ൽ അംഗീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.[22] പസാക്വാനിലെ കലാസൃഷ്ടികൾ പുനഃസ്ഥാപിക്കാനായി കൊഹ്‌ലർ ഫൌണ്ടേഷൻ കൊളംബസ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ് യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റിയുമായി സഹകരിച്ചു. രണ്ട് വർഷത്തെ പ്രവർത്തനത്തിന് ശേഷം, 2016 ഒക്ടോബർ 22 ന് സൈറ്റ് വീണ്ടും പൊതുജനങ്ങൾക്കായി തുറന്നുകൊടുത്തു.[23][24]

പ്രസിദ്ധി[തിരുത്തുക]

1980 കളുടെ തുടക്കത്തിൽ അമേരിക്കൻ പ്രസിഡന്റ് ജിമ്മി കാർട്ടർ ഈ സൈറ്റ് സന്ദർശിച്ചിരുന്നു.[25] 2015 ൽ, പസാക്വാനിൽ നടത്തിയ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾക്ക് പസക്വാൻ പ്രിസർവേഷൻ സൊസൈറ്റി ഗവർണറുടെ കലാ-മാനവികതാ പുരസ്കാരം നേടി.[26][27] 2016 ൽ സി.‌എൻ.‌എൻ.‌ പസാക്വാനെ ഒരു വിനോദസഞ്ചാര കേന്ദ്രമായി ശുപാർശ ചെയ്‌തു.[28] 2019 ൽ അറ്റ്ലാന്റാ മാഗസിൻ പസാക്വാനെ ഒരു നാടോടി കലാ കേന്ദ്രമായി ശുപാർശ ചെയ്തു.[29]
