തായ്ഭാഷയിലെ തെക്കുകിഴക്കൻ ഏഷ്യൻ നാടോടിക്കഥയിൽ പന്ത്രണ്ട് സഹോദരിമാർ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ പന്ത്രണ്ട് സ്ത്രീകളുടെ ഐതിഹ്യം നാങ് സിപ്പ് സോംഗ് അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ഫ്രാ റോട്ട് മേരി എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ബുദ്ധന്റെ മുൻ ജീവിതത്തിലെ ഒരു കഥയാണിത്. അതിൽ പന്ത്രണ്ട് സ്ത്രീകളിൽ ഒരാളുടെ മകൻ രതസേന ബോധിസത്വനാണ്.^[1]

പശ്ചാത്തലം[തിരുത്തുക]

തെക്കുകിഴക്കൻ ഏഷ്യയിലെ തായ്‌ലൻഡ്, കംബോഡിയ, ലാവോസ് തുടങ്ങിയ രാജ്യങ്ങളിലെ നാടോടി പാരമ്പര്യത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമാണ് പന്ത്രണ്ട് സഹോദരിമാരുടെ കഥ. അതിൽ നിന്ന് ഉരുത്തിരിഞ്ഞ നാടോടിക്കഥകൾ വ്യത്യസ്ത പതിപ്പുകളിൽ പലപ്പോഴും രാജ്യത്തെ ആശ്രയിച്ച് വ്യത്യസ്ത തലക്കെട്ടുകൾക്ക് കീഴിൽ വരുന്നു. ഈ ഇതിഹാസം മലേഷ്യൻ സിയാമികളും മലേഷ്യയിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. അവിടെ മലേഷ്യൻ ചൈനീസ് സമൂഹത്തിൽ ഇത് പ്രചാരത്തിലായി.^[2]

മാതാപിതാക്കൾ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച പന്ത്രണ്ട് സഹോദരിമാരുടെ ജീവിതത്തെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഒരു കഥയാണിത്. സുന്ദരിയായി വേഷം ധരിച്ച ഒരു ഒഗ്രെസ് (Lao Sundara; Khmer: Santhomea; Thai: Santhumala) അവരെ ഏറ്റെടുത്തു. പന്ത്രണ്ട് സഹോദരിമാരുടെ ഏക മകൻ രതസേനയും(Thai: Phra Rotthasen พระรถเสน; Khmer: Rithisen or Puthisen; Lao: Putthasen) ഒഗ്രെസ് സുന്ദരയുടെ ദത്തുപുത്രിയായ മനോരയ്‌ക്കൊപ്പമുള്ള (Thai: Meri เมรี; Lao: Kankari;^[i] Khmer: Kong Rei)സങ്കടകരമായ പ്രണയകഥയാണ് സമാപനം. ഒരു തടാകത്തിന്റെ ഏകാന്തതീരത്ത് ഇരുവരും ഒരുമിച്ച് മരിച്ചു.
