ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ഭാഷയിലെഴുതുന്ന ഭാരതീയനായ കവിയാണ് ജയന്ത മഹാപത്ര (22 ഒക്ടോബർ 1928 – 27 ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 2023)[1][2][3][4]ഇംഗ്ലിഷ് കവിതാവിഭാഗത്തിൽ ആദ്യമായി സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി പുരസ്കാരം നേടിയ കവിയാണദ്ദേഹം. ആധുനിക ഇന്ത്യൻ ഇംഗ്ലിഷ് സാഹിത്യത്തിൽ ക്ലാസ്സിക് കൃതികളായ ഇന്ത്യൻ സമ്മർ, ഹങ്കർ എന്നിവ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രശസ്ത കൃതികളാണ്. ഇന്ത്യയിലെ നാലാമത്തെ വലിയ സിവിലിയൻ പുരസ്കാരമായ പദ്മശ്രീ അദ്ദേഹം നേടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.[5]
ജയന്ത മഹാപത്ര തന്റെ പത്മശ്രീ പുരസ്കാരം തിരികെ നൽകുകയുണ്ടായി. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ വളർന്നുവരുന്ന അസഹിഷ്ണുതയിൽ പ്രതിഷേധിച്ചാണ് അദ്ദേഹം അതു തിരികെ നൽകിയത്. [6]
ജീവിതരേഖ
[തിരുത്തുക]1928 ഒക്ടോബർ 22ന് കട്ടക്കിൽ ജനിച്ച മഹാപത്ര, 1949ൽ അധ്യാപകനായി ഔദ്യോഗിക ജീവിതം ആരംഭിച്ചു. ഒഡീഷയിലെ വിവിധ സർക്കാർ കോളേജുകളിൽ സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. 1986ലാണ് വിരമിച്ചത്. 1981ൽ 'റിലേഷൻഷിപ്പ്' എന്ന ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് കവിതയ്ക്ക് സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി അവാർഡ് ലഭിച്ചു.
മരണം
[തിരുത്തുക]2023 ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 27 ന് ന്യുമോണിയയും വാർദ്ധക്യ സഹജമായ അസുഖങ്ങളും മൂലം ഒഡീഷ കട്ടക്കിലെ ആശുപത്രിയിലർൽ അന്തരിച്ചു. പെട്ടെന്നുണ്ടായ ഹൃദയാഘാതമായിരുന്നു മരണകാരണം.
