ചിത്തവിഭ്രാന്തി എന്നത്,"യഥാർത്ഥ്യത്തെ വിട്ടകലുന്ന മനസ്സ്" എന്ന് പറയാവുന്ന മനസ്സിന്റെ അസംതുലിതാവസ്ഥയാണ്.ചിത്തവിഭ്രാന്തിയുള്ളവരെ(psychosis) സൈക്കോട്ടിക് എന്ന് വിളിക്കുന്നു.മറ്റുള്ളവർ ഇത്തരം ആൾക്കാരോട് ഇടപഴകുന്നതോടെ വ്യക്തിപരമായും,ചിന്താപരമായും മാറ്റങ്ങളുണ്ടായേക്കാം.അത് ആയാൾ ചെലുത്തുന്ന കാഠിന്യത്തിന്റേയും,മോശമായ പെരുമാറ്റത്തിന്റേയും,സാമൂഹ്യപരമായ ഇടപെടലിന്റേയും, ദിവസേനയുള്ള കാര്യങ്ങൾക്ക് കൂടെ കൂട്ടുന്നതിന്റേയും അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിലിരിക്കും.
