പ്രതീക് സിൻഹയും മുഹമ്മദ് സുബൈറും ചേർന്ന് സ്ഥാപിച്ച് നടത്തുന്ന ഫാക്റ്റ് ചെക്കിങ് സ്ഥാപനമാണ് ആൾട്ട് ന്യൂസ്[2][3]. ലാഭേച്ഛയില്ലാതെ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന ഈ സ്ഥാപനം 2017-ലാണ് ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത്[4][5][6]. വ്യാജവാർത്തകളെ വസ്തുതകൾ കൊണ്ട് പ്രതിരോധിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്ന ഈ സ്ഥാപനം 2020 ഏപ്രിൽ വരെ ഇന്റർനാഷണൽ ഫാക്റ്റ് ചെക്കിങ്ങ് നെറ്റ്‌വർക്കിന്റെ ഔദ്യോഗിക പങ്കാളിയായിരുന്നു[7][12].

അഭിഭാഷകനും ജൻ സംഘർഷ് മഞ്ചിന്റെ സ്ഥാപക-പ്രസിഡന്റുമായ മുകുൾ സിൻഹയുടെ മകനും മുൻ സോഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയർ എഞ്ചിനീയറുമായ പ്രതീക് സിൻഹയാണ് അഹമ്മദാബാദിൽ [13] ആൾട്ട് ന്യൂസ് സ്ഥാപിച്ചത്. [14] [15] ഇന്ത്യയിലെ തന്റെ മാതാപിതാക്കളോടൊപ്പം സാമുഹ്യപ്രവർത്തനം തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോഴാണ് പ്രതീക് സിൻഹ വ്യാജവാർത്തകളെ തുറന്നുകാട്ടാൻ താൽപ്പര്യപ്പെട്ടുതുടങ്ങിയത്. ഉന സംഭവത്തോടെ ഇതിന്റെ പ്രാധാന്യം മനസ്സിലാക്കി തന്റെ ജോലി ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച് ആൾട്ട് ന്യൂസ് സ്ഥാപിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു[13].
സാമൂഹ്യമാധ്യമങ്ങളിൽ വരുന്ന വ്യാജവാർത്തകളെ തുറന്നുകാണിക്കാനായിരുന്നു സ്ഥാപനം ഉന്നമിട്ടത്.
