ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് രസതന്ത്രശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനും ശാസ്ത്രലേഖകനും ധാതുശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനുമായിരുന്നു ആർതർ ഐകിൻ (19 മേയ് 1773 – 15 ഏപ്രിൽ 1854). റോയൽ സൊസൈറ്റി ഓഫ് കെമിസ്ട്രി-യുടെ സ്ഥാപകാംഗം ആയിരുന്നു. 1841-ൽ ആദ്യം അദ്ദേഹം അതിന്റെ ട്രഷറർ ആവുകയും പിന്നീട് അതിന്റെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ പ്രസിഡന്റ് ആവുകയും ചെയ്തു.
ജീവിതം
[തിരുത്തുക]ലങ്കാഷയരിലെ വാറിങ്ടണിലാണ് അദ്ദേഹം ജനിച്ചത്. പിതാവ് മെഡിക്കൽ ഡോക്ടറായ ജോൺ ഐകിൻ. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ ബന്ധത്തിലുള്ള ഒരു അമ്മായിയായിരുന്നു പേരുകേട്ട കവയിത്രിയായ അന്ന ലെറ്റീഷ്യ ബാർബൗൾഡ്. സഹോദരിയായ ലൂസി ഐകിൻ(1781–1864) ചരിത്രകാരിയായ എഴുത്തുകാരിയായിരുന്നു. ജോസഫ് പ്രീസ്റ്റ്‌ലിയുടെ കീഴിലാണ് ആർതർ ഐകിൻ രസതന്ത്രം പഠിച്ചത്.
