ലോകത്തിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ വെബ്ബ് സെർച്ച് എഞ്ചിനാണ് ആലിവെബ് (ALIWEB: Archie Like Indexing for the WEB). 1993 നവംബറിൽ പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചുവെങ്കിലും 1994 മേയിലാണു ഇതു പൊതുജനത്തിനുമുൻപിൽ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചത്. 1994 മേയിൽ CERNൽ വച്ചു നടന്ന വേൾഡ് വൈഡ് വെബിന്റെ ആദ്യ അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര സമ്മേളനത്തിലാണ് ഇതു ആദ്യമായി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചത്. മാർട്ടിൻ കോസ്റ്റർ ആണ് ഇതു രൂപകല്പന ചെയ്തത്. ഉപഭോക്താക്കളൾക്ക് വെബ് പേജുകൾ സമർപ്പിക്കാനുള്ള സൗകര്യം ആലിവെബ് നല്കിയിരുന്നു. പക്ഷേ അധികം ആളുകൾ വെബ് പേജുകൾ സമർപ്പിച്ചില്ല. അതിനാൽ ആലിവെബ് അധികം ആരും ഉപയോഗിച്ചില്ല.
