പുഷ്പിക്കുന്ന സസ്യങ്ങൾ - Flowering plants - angiosperms - Angiospermae - Magnoliophyta. അധികം ഉയരത്തിലല്ലാതെ വളരുന്ന വിവിധങ്ങളായ പുഷ്പിക്കുന്ന സസ്യങ്ങളുടെ കൂട്ടം. വിശ്രുതമായ രീതിയിൽ വിത്ത് ഉത്പാദിപ്പിക്കുന്ന തരം സസ്യങ്ങളാണ് ഇവ. ഇത്തരത്തിലുള്ള സസ്യങ്ങൾ ഉള്ളിൽ വിത്തുകളുള്ള പഴങ്ങൾ ഉത്പാദിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. പഴങ്ങൾക്കുള്ളിലുള്ള വിത്തിലൂടെയാണ് ഇവയുടെ വിതരണം. അണ്‌ഡങ്ങളും വിത്തുകളും രൂപാന്തരപ്പെട്ട്‌ ഇലകളുടെ ഉപരിതലത്തിലായി പഴങ്ങൾ വളരുന്ന തരത്തിലുള്ളതാണ് ഇവയുടെ പൂർവ്വികർ. ഇതാണ് ഇവയുടെ പ്രത്യേകത. ഇത്തരം സസ്യങ്ങളുടെ ഉത്ഭവം ഏകദേശം 245-202 മില്ല്യൺ വർഷങ്ങൾക്കു മുൻപ് ആ പ്രത്യേകതയുള്ള സസ്യങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും വഴിത്തിരിഞ്ഞാണ്. എന്നാൽ 140 മില്ല്യൺ വർഷൾക്കു മുൻപാണ് ഇവയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യം തിരിച്ചറിയപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളത്. 100 മില്ല്യൺ വർഷങ്ങൾക്കു ശേഷം അന്ത്യ ക്രിറ്റേഷ്യസിലാണ് ആഗോളമായി ഇവ വിതരണം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളത്. എന്നാൽ 60–100 മില്ല്യൺ വർഷങ്ങൾക്കു ശേഷം ഇവ ഉയർന്ന ആധിപത്യമുള്ള സസ്യമായി പരിവർത്തനം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടു.
