ജൂൺ കാൾവുഡ് തന്റെ സഹൊദരിയായ ജയിൻ കാൾവുഡിന്റെ കൂടെ ബെല്ലെറിവറിൽ വളർന്നു. [1][2]
ജൂൺ കാൾവുഡ് ബ്രാന്റ്ഫോർഡ് കോളേജിയേറ്റ് ഇൻസ്റ്റിട്യൂട്ടിലെ തന്റെ ഹൈസ്കൂൾ ക്ലാസ്സിൽ വച്ചുതന്നെ പത്രപ്രവർത്തനം നടത്തിത്തുടങ്ങി. അവിടെ വർ സ്കൂൾ പത്രത്തിന്റെ പത്രാധിപരായി. പിന്നീട് ബ്രാന്റ്ഫോർഡ് എക്സ്പോസിറ്ററിൽ ജോലിചെയ്തു. 1942ൽ അവർ ടൊറോണ്ടോയിലേയ്ക്കു താമസം മാറ്റി. അവർ ട്രെന്റ് ഫ്രെയ്നെയെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചങ്കിലും അവരുടെ പേരു മാറ്റിയില്ല. കാരണം ആക്കാലത്ത് അവർ ജോലിച്യ്ത ഗ്ലോബ് ആന്റ് മെയിൽ വിവാഹിതരായ സ്ത്രീകളെ ജോലിക്കെടുത്തിരുന്നില്ല.
