യുണൈറ്റഡ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ്സിന്റെ മദ്ധ്യ പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ പ്രദേശത്ത് സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന സംസ്ഥാനമാണ് മിസോറി. അയോവ, ഇല്ലിനോയി, കെന്റക്കി, ടെന്നസി, അർക്കൻസാ, ഒക്‌ലഹോമ, കാൻസസ്, നെബ്രാസ്ക എന്നിവയാണ് മിസോറിയുടെ അയൽ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങൾ. ജനസംഖ്യയുടെ കാര്യത്തിൽ 18-ആം സ്ഥാനത്താണ് ഈ സംസ്ഥാനം. 114 കൗണ്ടികളും ഒരു സ്വതന്ത്ര നഗരവും ഇവിടെയുണ്ട്. ജെഫേഴ്സൺ സിറ്റിയാണ് തലസ്ഥാനം. ലുയീസിയാന വാങ്ങലിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി ഫ്രാൻസിൽ നിന്ന് നേടിയ ഒരു പ്രദേശമാണിത്. 1821 ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 20-ന് ആ പ്രദേശത്തിലെ ഒരു ഭാഗം മിസോറി എന്ന പേരിൽ 24-ആം സംസ്ഥാനമായി യൂണിയനോട് ചേർക്കപ്പെട്ടു.
