ഇഗോർ സ്ട്രാവിൻസ്കി
ഇരുപതാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ സംഗീതത്തെ ഏറ്റവുമധികം സ്വാധീനിച്ച വ്യക്തികളിലൊരാളായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്ന റഷ്യൻ സംഗീതജ്ഞനാണ് ഇഗോർ ഫ്യൊദൊറോവിച്ച് സ്ട്രാവിൻസ്കി (റഷ്യൻ: Игорь Фёдорович Стравинский) (17 June [O.S. 5 June] 1882 – ഏപ്രിൽ 6, 1971)[1]. നൂറ്റാണ്ടിനെ ഏറ്റവും സ്വാധീനിച്ച 100 വ്യക്തികളിലൊരാളായി ടൈം മാസിക അദ്ദേഹത്തെ കണക്കാക്കി.[2]. പിയാനിസ്റ്റ്, ഓർക്കെസ്ട്ര നടത്തിപ്പുകാരൻ എന്നീ നിലകളിലും അദ്ദേഹം പ്രശസ്തി നേടി.
സെർജി ദിയാഘിലേവിന്റെ Ballets Russes അവതരിപ്പിച്ച മൂന്ന് ബാലേകളായ ദ ഫയർബേഡ് (1910), പെട്രൂഷ്ക (1911/1947), ദ റൈറ്റ് ഓഫ് ദ സ്പ്രിംഗ് (1913) എന്നിവ വഴിയാണ് സ്ട്രാവിസ്കി പ്രശസ്തിയിലേക്കുയർന്നത്. ഇതിൽ മൂന്നാമത്തേത് സംഗീതത്തിന്റെ അതിരുകൾ ഭേദിക്കുന്ന സംഗീതത്തിലെ വിപ്ലവകാരി എന്ന ഖ്യാതി അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു നൽകി. സംഗീതത്തിന്റെ ഘടനയെക്കുറിച്ച് വരും തലമുറയിലെ സംഗീതജ്ഞർ ചിന്തിക്കുന്ന രീതി തന്നെ ഇത് മാറ്റിമറിച്ചു. 1920-കളിൽ സ്ട്രാവിൻസ്കി നിയോക്ലാസ്സിക് സംഗീതത്തിലേക്ക് തിരിഞ്ഞു. കൺസർട്ടോ ഗ്രോസ്സോ, ഫ്യൂഗ്, സിംഫണി മുതലായ സംഗീതത്തിലെ പണ്ടുതൊട്ടേയുള്ള രൂപങ്ങളെ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതും ബാക്സ്, ചൈകോവ്സ്കി മുതലായവരുടെ രീതികളെ അനുസ്മരിപ്പിക്കുന്നതുമായിരുന്നു ഇക്കാലഘട്ടത്തിലെ രചനകൾ. 1950-കളിൽ സീരിയൽ രിതികളും ഉപയോഗിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി.
ഏറെ പുസ്തകങ്ങളും രചിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി. വാൾട്ടർ നോവലിന്റെ സഹായത്തോടെ 1936-ൽ പുറത്തിറക്കിയ ക്രോണിക്കിൾസ് ഓഫ് മൈ ലൈഫ് എന്ന ആത്മകഥയിൽ സംഗീതം പ്രകൃത്യാലെ യാതൊന്നും തന്നെ പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കാൻ സാധിക്കാത്തതാണ് എന്ന തന്റെ കുപ്രസിദ്ധമായ ഉദ്ധരണി ചേർത്തു[3]. അലെക്സിസ് റോളണ്ട് മാനുവൽ, പിയേർ സൗച്ചിൻസ്കി എന്നിവരുമായ്ച്ചേർന്ന് 1939-40ൽ ഹാർവാർഡ് സർവ്വകലാശാല യിലെ ചാൾസ് എല്ലിയട്ട് നോർട്ടൺ പ്രസംഗങ്ങൾ ഫ്രഞ്ച് ഭാഷയിൽ എഴുതി. പൊയെറ്റിക്സ് ഓഫ് മ്യൂസിക്ക് (സംഗീത്തിന്റെ കാവ്യത) എന്ന പേരിൽ ഇത് പിന്നീട് പുസ്തകമായി പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു. റോബർട്ട് ക്രാഫ്റ്റ് നടത്തിയ അഭിമുഖങ്ങൾ കോൺവെർസേഷൻസ് വിത്ത് ഇഗോർ സ്ട്രാവിൻസ്കി എന്ന പേരിൽ 1959-ൽ പുസ്തകരൂപത്തിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു.
