ആനകളിൽ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ഇനമാണ് ആഫ്രിക്കൻ ബുഷ് ആന അഥവാ ആഫ്രിക്കൻ സവേന ആന (ശാസ്തീയനാമം: Loxodonta africana). കരയിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ജീവിയായ ആഫ്രിക്കൻ ബുഷ് ആനയ്ക്ക് പതിമൂന്ന് അടി (നാല് മീറ്റർ) പൊക്കവും ഏഴായിരം കിലോ (ഏഴുടൺ) ഭാരവും ഉണ്ടാകും. ഒരു ആണാനയ്ക്കു ശരാശരി മൂന്ന് മീറ്റർ (പത്ത് അടി) പൊക്കവും അയ്യായിരത്തിനും ആറായിരത്തിനും (കിലോ) ഇടയ്ക്കു ഭാരവും ഉണ്ടാകും. പെണ്ണാനകൾ ആണാനകളേക്കാൾ ചെറുതായിരിക്കും. സവേന ആനകൾ അധികവും തുറസായ സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലും ചതുപ്പുകളുടേയും തടാകങ്ങളുടേയും കരയിലുമാണ് കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്. ആഫ്രിക്ക എമ്പാടും തെക്കൻ സഹാറ മരുഭൂമിയും ഇവരുടെ ആവാസ കേന്ദ്രങ്ങൾ ആണ്.
