'ആൽക്കിളി (ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം: Psilopogon malabaricus).[2] [3][4][5] താടി, തൊണ്ട, നെറ്റി, മുഖം എന്നിവ നല്ല ചുമപ്പാണ്. ശരീരം ആകെ പച്ച. ചിറകുകൾ, പിൻ കഴുത്തുമുതൽ വാലിനറ്റം വരെ കടും പച്ചനിറം. കാലിന് നല്ല ചുമന്ന നിറം.
ആവാസ വ്യവസ്ഥ[തിരുത്തുക]
പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിൽ ഗോവ മുതൽ ദക്ഷിണകേരളം വരെയുള്ള 1200 മീറ്റർ വരെ ഉയരമുള്ള മലമ്പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലെ ഈർപ്പമേറിയ നിത്യഹരിതവനങ്ങളിലാണ് ആൽക്കിളി എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ പക്ഷികളെ കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്.
ഭക്ഷണരീതി[തിരുത്തുക]
ആൽ വർഗ്ഗത്തിൽ പെട്ട വൃക്ഷങ്ങൾ, കാപ്പിച്ചെടി തുടങ്ങിയവയുടെ വിത്തുകളാണു് പ്രിയാഹാരം. സമൃദ്ധമായി ആഹാരം ലഭിക്കുന്നയിടങ്ങളിൽ പ്രാവിനങ്ങൾ, മൈന തുടങ്ങിയ പക്ഷിക്കൂട്ടങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം ഒരുമിച്ചും ഇവയെ കാണാം. ചില സന്ദർഭങ്ങളിൽ ഉറുമ്പ്, ചെറുകീടങ്ങൾ, ഈയാമ്പാറ്റ എന്നിവയേയും ഇവ ആഹാരമാക്കാറുണ്ടു്.

ജനുവരി മുതൽ മാർച്ചുവരെയാണ് പ്രജനന കാലം.[6]
