പ്രശസ്തമായ ഒരു ഇനം അലങ്കാര മത്സ്യം ആണ് സീബ്ര മത്സ്യം അഥവാ വരയൻ ഡാനിയോ' (Zebra danio). (ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം: Danio rerio (Hamilton, 1822)). വളരെ ചെറിയ, ശുദ്ധജല ജീവിയായ ഒരു മത്സ്യമാണിത്. കേരളത്തിൽ വയനാട്ടിൽ നിന്നും ഇവയെ കണ്ടെതിയിടുണ്ട് .[1] തുപ്പലംകൊത്തിയുടെ ഇനത്തിൽപ്പെട്ട ഒരു മീനാണിത്. ഇവയുടെ ശാസ്ത്രീയ നാമം ' ദാനിഒ രെരിഒ ' എന്നാണ് . ആകർഷകമായ നിറമാണ് വരയൻ ഡാനിയോക്ക്. വായ് വളരെ ചെറുതാണ്. രണ്ട് ജോടി മീശരോമങ്ങളുണ്ട്. വെള്ളിനിറമാണ് പാർശ്വങ്ങൾല്ല്. പച്ചകലർന്ന തവിട്ടുനിറമാണ് മുതുകിന്. മഞ്ഞകലർന്ന വെളുത്ത നിറം ഉദരഭാഗത്തിനുണ്ട്. തിളങ്ങുന്ന നീലനിറത്തിലുള്ള നാലുവരകൾ പാർശ്വഭാഗത്തുണ്ട്. സാധാരണ ഒഴുക്കുവെള്ളത്തിലാണിവയെ കണ്ടുവരുന്നത്. ഹിമാലയൻ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ ഉള്ള അരുവികൾ ആണ് ഇവയുടെ പ്രധാന ആവാസ കേന്ദ്രം.[2]
