മർജോറി ഇലീൻ ഡേവിസ് (ജീവിതകാലം: ഫെബ്രുവരി 13, 1912 - മെയ് 18, 2002) ഒരു കനേഡിയൻ ഭിഷഗ്വരയും ശസ്ത്രക്രിയാ വിദഗ്ധയുമായിരുന്നു. ഡേവിസ് 1947-ൽ കാനഡയിലെ റോയൽ കോളേജ് ഓഫ് സർജൻസിന്റെ ഫെല്ലോ ആയിത്തീർന്നു, കൂടാതെ 1965 മുതൽ 1976 വരെ ടോറോണ്ടോയിലെ വിമൻസ് കോളേജ് ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിലെ വൈദ്യശാസ്ത്ര വിഭാഗത്തിൻറെ മേധാവിയും ആയിരുന്നു.

1912 ഫെബ്രുവരി 13-ന് ഒണ്ടാറിയോയിലെ ഫ്രാങ്ക്ടൗണിലാണ് മർജോറി ഡേവിസ് ജനിച്ചത്.[1] 1935-ൽ ടൊറന്റോ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിലെ മെഡിസിൻ ഫാക്കൽറ്റിയിൽ നിന്ന് ബിരുദം നേടി.[2][3] തുടർന്ന് സെന്റ് മൈക്കിൾസ് ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിൽ ഇന്റേൺഷിപ്പ് തുടങ്ങിയ അവർ, അടുത്ത വർഷം വിമൻസ് കോളേജ് ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിൽ (WCH) ജൂനിയർ ഇന്റേണായി ചേർന്നു.[4] 1937 മുതൽ 1939 വരെയുള്ള കാലത്ത്, മർജോറി ഡേവിസ് ന്യൂയോർക്ക് നഗരത്തിലെ ബെല്ലെവ്യൂ ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിൽ സർജറിയിൽ അസിസ്റ്റന്റ് റെസിഡൻസി പൂർത്തിയാക്കി.[5][6] ടൊറന്റോയിൽ തിരിച്ചെത്തിയ അവർ 1940 വരെ വിമൻസ് കോളേജ് ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിൽ സർജറി റസിഡന്റ് ആയി.[7] 1942-ൽ, ടൊറോണ്ടോ യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റിയിലെ അത്ര പ്രചാരമില്ലാത്ത ഗാലി പ്രോഗ്രാമിൽ[8] പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ആദ്യത്തെ വനിതയായി അവർ മാറി. വില്യം എഡ്വേർഡ് ഗാലിയിൽ നിന്ന് പ്രചോദനം ഉൾക്കൊണ്ട് ശസ്ത്രക്രിയയിൽ ബിരുദാനന്തര പരിശീലന കോഴ്‌സായിരുന്ന ഇത്, ജനറൽ സർജറിയിലെ ഗാലി കോഴ്‌സായി ഇന്നും സജീവമാണ്.[9] 1943-ൽ, അവൾ ടൊറോണ്ടോ ജനറൽ ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിൽ റെസിഡൻസി പൂർത്തിയാക്കുകയും[10] അതുവഴി ശസ്ത്രക്രിയയിൽ റെസിഡൻസി പ്രോഗ്രാം പൂർത്തിയാക്കുന്ന രണ്ടാമത്തെ വനിതയായിത്തീരുകയും ചെയ്തു.[11] 1945-ൽ, ഡേവിസ് സർജറിയിൽ സർട്ടിഫിക്കേഷൻ നേടിയതോടെ, 1947-ൽ കാനഡയിലെ റോയൽ കോളേജ് ഓഫ് സർജൻസിന്റെ ഫെല്ലോ ആയി.[12] ജെസ്സി ഗ്രേ, ജീൻ ഡേവി, ജെറാൾഡിൻ മലോനി എന്നിവരോടൊപ്പം ഫെലോകളായി നാമകരണം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട ആദ്യത്തെ സ്ത്രീകളുടെ സംഘത്തിൽ മർജോറി ഡേവിസും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.[13]

കരിയർ[തിരുത്തുക]

ഡേവിസ് 1945-ൽ വിമൻസ് കോളേജ് ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിലെ സ്റ്റാഫംഗമായി ചേർന്നു.[14] അതിനുമുമ്പ്, ടൊറോണ്ടോ ജനറൽ ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിൽ ക്ലിനിക്കൽ ടീച്ചറായി രണ്ടു വർഷക്കാലം ജോലി ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.[15] സർജറിയുടെ അസിസ്റ്റന്റ് മേധാവിയായുള്ള ഒരു കാലയളവിനു ശേഷം,[16] 1965 മുതൽ 1976 വരെ വിമൻസ് കോളേജ് ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിൽ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയാ മേധാവിയുമായിരുന്നു.[17]

1976 ജൂൺ 30-ന് വിമൻസ് കോളേജ് ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിൽ സർജറി വിഭാഗത്തിൻറെ മേധാവിയായി അവർ വിരമിച്ചു.[18] ഡേവിസ് 2002 മെയ് 18 ശനിയാഴ്ച അന്തരിച്ചു.[19][20]
