തോമസ് ലവ് പീക്കോക്ക് (ജീവിതകാലം : 18 ഒക്ടോബർ 1785 – 23 ജനുവരി 1866) ഒരു ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് നോവലിസ്റ്റും കവിയുമായിരുന്നു. ഈസ്റ്റ് ഇന്ത്യ കമ്പനിയിലെ ഒരു ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം പ്രശസ്ത കവി ഷെല്ലിയുടെ ഉറ്റമിത്രമായിരുന്നു. അവരുടെ സൌഹൃദം അവരുടെ കൃതികളേയും സ്വാധീനിച്ചിരുന്നു. പീക്കോക്ക് ആക്ഷപഹാസ്യനോവലുകളായിരുന്നു രചിച്ചിരുന്നത്.
ജീവിതരേഖ[തിരുത്തുക]
ഡോർസെറ്റിലെ വെയ്മൌത്തിൽ, സാമുവൽ പീക്കോക്കിൻറെയും സാറ ലൌവിൻറെയും മകനായിട്ടാണ് ജനനം. അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറെ പിതാവ് ആപ്സ്‍ലി പെല്ലാറ്റ് ((1763–1826) എന്നയാളുമായി പങ്കാളിത്തത്തിൽ ലണ്ടനിലെ ഒരു ഗ്ലാസ് വ്യവസായം നടത്തിയിരുന്നു. 1791 ൽ പീക്കോക്ക് മാതാവിനോടൊപ്പം അവരുടെ കുടുംബത്തിൽ താമസിക്കുവാനായി ചെർട്ട്സിയിലേയ്ക്കു പോയി. 1792 ൽ എൻഗിൾഫീൽഡ് ഗ്രീനിൽ ജോസഫ് ഹാരിസ് വിക്സ് എന്നയാൾ നടത്തിയിരുന്ന സ്കൂളിൽ ചേരുകയും ആറരവർഷം അവിടെ താമസിച്ചു പഠിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
പീക്കോക്കിൻറെ പിതാവ് 1794 ൽ മരണമടയുകയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറേതായി ചെറിയ ഒരു പെൻഷനല്ലാതെ സ്വത്തുക്കളൊന്നുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. പീക്കോക്കിൻറെ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ആദ്യ കവിത 10 വയസിലെഴുതിയ ഒരു സ്കൂള് കുട്ടിയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള സ്മരണക്കുറിപ്പായിരുന്നു. മറ്റൊന്ന് 13 വയസിലെഴുതിയതുമായിരുന്നു. 1798 കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ സ്കൂളിൽനിന്ന് പോകേണ്ട സാഹചര്യമുണ്ടാകുകയും പിന്നീടുള്ള പഠനം സ്വയംനിലയിൽ തുടരുകയുമാണ് ചെയ്തത്.
