കുട്ടിക്കാലത്ത് തന്നെ ആരംഭിക്കുന്ന ഒരു രോഗാവസ്ഥയാണ് ഓട്ടിസം സ്പെക്ട്രം. ഓട്ടിസ്റ്റിക് ഡിസോർഡർ, ആസ്പെർജർ സിൻഡ്രോം എന്നിവയെല്ലാം ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നതാണ് ഇത്[3]. ആശയവിനിമയം, സാമൂഹിക ഇടപെടൽ എന്നിവയിൽ ഈ സ്പെക്ട്രത്തിലുള്ളവർക്ക് ദീർഘകാല ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകൾ അനുഭവിക്കുന്നതോടൊപ്പം, പരിമിതമായ മേഖലയിലെ താത്പര്യങ്ങൾ, കാര്യങ്ങൾ ആവർത്തിച്ച് ചെയ്യാനുള്ള താല്പര്യം എന്നിവയും ഇവരിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു[3]. രണ്ട് വയസ്സിന് മുൻപ് തന്നെ ലക്ഷണങ്ങൾ വഴി ഇത് തിരിച്ചറിയപ്പെടുന്നു[3]. ദൈനംദിന ജീവിതത്തിലെ പ്രയാസങ്ങൾ, ജോലി ചെയ്യാനും ബന്ധങ്ങൾ നിലനിർത്താനുമുള്ള ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകൾ, ആത്മഹത്യാസാധ്യത എന്നിവയൊക്കെ ഇതിന്റെ സങ്കീർണ്ണതകളിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു[4].

കാരണങ്ങൾ[തിരുത്തുക]

ഓട്ടിസം സ്പെൿട്രത്തിന്റെ കൃത്യമായ കാരണങ്ങൾ ഇപ്പോഴും അവ്യക്തമായി തുടരുകയാണെങ്കിലും ജനിതകവും, പാരിസ്ഥിതികവുമായ കാരണങ്ങൾ ഇതിലേക്ക് നയിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെന്ന് കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു[5]. പ്രായമായ മാതാപിതാക്കൾ, പാരമ്പര്യം, ചില ജനിതക ഘടകങ്ങൾ എന്നിവയൊക്കെ കാരണങ്ങളിൽ കടന്നുവന്നേക്കാം[5]. പാരമ്പര്യവും ജനിതകവുമായ കാരണങ്ങളാണ് 65 മുതൽ 90% വരെയും ഇതിനുള്ളത്[9].

രോഗനിർണ്ണയം[തിരുത്തുക]

രോഗലക്ഷണങ്ങളെ അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കിയാണ് രോഗനിർണയം നടത്തുന്നത്[5]. ഓട്ടിസ്റ്റിക് ഡിസോർഡർ, ആസ്പെർജെർ സിൻഡ്രോം, പെർവേസീവ് ഡെവലപ്മെന്റൽ ഡിസോർഡർ നോട്ട് അതർവൈസ് സ്പെസിഫൈഡ് (PDD-NOS), ചൈൽഡ്‌ഹുഡ് ഡിസിന്റെഗ്രേറ്റീവ് ഡിസോർഡർ എന്നിവയെല്ലാം ഓട്ടിസം സ്പെക്ട്രം എന്നതിന് കീഴിൽ വരുന്നതായി 2013-ൽ DSM-5 പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചിരുന്നു[10][11].

ചികിത്സ[തിരുത്തുക]

രോഗത്തിന് ചികിത്സയില്ലെങ്കിലും, ലക്ഷണങ്ങളെ നിയന്ത്രിക്കാവുന്ന ചികിത്സകൾ വഴി നില മെച്ചപ്പെടുത്താൻ സാധിക്കും[12]. ഓരോ വ്യക്തിയിലും അവർക്കനുസരിച്ച മരുന്നുകളോ തെറാപ്പികളോ ഫലം ചെയ്തേക്കാം. ബിഹേവിയറൽ തെറാപ്പി, കോപ്പിങ് സ്കിൽ പഠിപ്പിക്കൽ എന്നിവയെല്ലാം ഫലം കാണിക്കുന്നതായി കാണുന്നു[5]. ഇതിലെ പരിശീലനങ്ങൾ പലപ്പോഴും മാതാപിതാക്കളും കുടുംബവും ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നതായിരിക്കും[5]. രോഗത്തിന് അനുബന്ധമായ ലക്ഷണങ്ങളെ ചികിത്സിക്കാനായി മരുന്നുകൾ ഉപയോഗിക്കാറുണ്ട്.[5][7]

ഏകദേശം ഒരു ശതമാനം ജനസംഖ്യയെ ഓട്ടിസം സ്പെക്ട്രം ബാധിക്കുന്നുവെന്നാണ് കണക്ക്[3][13][8]. പുരുഷന്മാരിലാണ് രോഗാവസ്ഥ കൂടുതലായി കാണപ്പെടുന്നത് (സ്ത്രീകളേക്കാൾ നാലിരട്ടി)[12]. ഓരോ വ്യക്തിക്കും ഇതുമൂലമുണ്ടാകുന്ന സങ്കീർണ്ണതകൾ വ്യത്യസ്തമാണ്[11]. ഈ രോഗത്തിന്റെ വ്യാപ്തി (നേരിയ ലക്ഷണങ്ങൾ മുതൽ ഗുരുതര ലക്ഷണങ്ങൾ വരെ) കാരണമാണ് സ്പെൿട്രം എന്ന വിശേഷണനാമം ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്[14][4].
