ഒരു മൾട്ടി-ജസ്റ്റേഷൻ ഗർഭാവസ്ഥയിലെ ഒരു ഭ്രൂണമാണ് വാനിഷിങ് റ്റ്വിൻ, റ്റ്വിൻ റിസോർപ്ഷൻ എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. അത് ഗർഭാശയത്തിൽ മരിക്കുകയും ഭാഗികമായോ പൂർണ്ണമായോ വീണ്ടും ആഗിരണം ചെയ്യപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.[1][2] ചില സന്ദർഭങ്ങളിൽ, മരിച്ച ഇരട്ടകളെ, പരന്നതും ചർമ്മപടം പോലെയുള്ളതുമായ ഫെറ്റസ് പാപ്പിറേസിയസ് എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന അവസ്ഥയിലേക്ക് കംപ്രസ് ചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്നു.[3]

വാനിഷിംഗ് റ്റ്വിൻ ഓരോ എട്ട് മൾട്ടിഫെറ്റസ് ഗർഭധാരണങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നിലും ഉണ്ടാകാറുണ്ട്. മിക്ക കേസുകളിലും ഇത് അറിയപ്പെടുക പോലുമില്ല.[4] "പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ച ഗർഭച്ഛിദ്രത്തിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ വിശദീകരിക്കാനാകാത്ത ഉയർന്ന റിസോർപ്ഷൻ നിരക്ക്, ഗർഭാവസ്ഥയുടെ ആദ്യകാലങ്ങളിൽ ഇടയ്‌ക്കോ പോഷണത്തിനോ മറ്റ് ഘടകങ്ങൾക്കോ വേണ്ടിയുള്ള ഗർഭപിണ്ഡത്തിന്റെ തീവ്രമായ മത്സരത്തെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. മറ്റ് ഇരട്ടകളുടെ കൂടെക്കൂടെയുള്ള നഷ്‌ടമോ പുനഃസ്ഥാപനമോ ഉണ്ടാകുന്നു."[5]

ഇൻ വിട്രോ ഫെർട്ടിലൈസേഷൻ വഴിയുള്ള ഗർഭധാരണങ്ങളിൽ, "ഗർഭകാലത്തിന്റെ തുടക്കത്തിൽ ഒന്നിലധികം അമ്നിയോട്ടിക് സഞ്ചികൾ കാണപ്പെടാറുണ്ട്. എന്നാൽ ഏതാനും ആഴ്ചകൾക്കുശേഷം ഒരെണ്ണം മാത്രമേ കാണാനാകൂ, മറ്റൊന്ന് 'അപ്രത്യക്ഷമാവുകയും ചെയ്യും".[6]
