നാൻസി മരിയ ഹിൽ (ജീവിതകാലം: നവംബർ 19, 1833 - ജനുവരി 8, 1919) ഒരു അമേരിക്കൻ ആഭ്യന്തരയുദ്ധകാല നഴ്‌സായിരുന്നു, പിന്നീട് അവർ അമേരിക്കൻ ഐക്യനാടുകളിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ വനിതാ ഫിസിഷ്യൻമാരിൽ ഒരാളായി. പ്രസവചികിത്സയിൽ വൈദഗ്ദ്ധ്യം നേടിയിട്ടുള്ള അവർ, ഐയവയിലെ ഡൂബക്കിൽ അവിവാഹിതരായ അമ്മമാർക്കും അവരുടെ കുട്ടികൾക്കും പിന്തുണ നൽകുന്ന ഒരു സംഘടനയായ ഹിൽക്രെസ്റ്റ് ഫാമിലി സർവീസസ് എന്ന സ്ഥാപനം ആരംഭിച്ചു.

1833-ൽ മസാച്യുസെറ്റ്‌സിലെ ബോസ്റ്റണിൽ വില്യമിന്റെയും ഹാരിയറ്റ് (സ്വാൻ) ഹില്ലിന്റെയും മകളായി നാൻസി ഹിൽ ജനിച്ചു.[1][2] വളരെ നന്നായി പഠിച്ചിരുന്ന അവർ, മൗണ്ട് ഹോളിയോക്ക് കോളേജിൽ ഉപരിപഠനത്തിന് ചേർന്നു. അമേരിക്കൻ ആഭ്യന്തരയുദ്ധസമയത്ത് ഒരു സന്നദ്ധ നഴ്‌സായി സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചിരുന്ന സമയത്ത് അവർ വാഷിംഗ്ടൺ ഡിസിയിലെ ആർമറി സ്‌ക്വയർ ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിൽ ജോലി ചെയ്തു.[3][4]
യുദ്ധം അവസാനിച്ചപ്പോൾ, ഹിൽ തന്റെ നഴ്സിംഗ് അനുഭവങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് പ്രചോദനം ഉൾക്കൊണ്ടുകൊണ്ട് വൈദ്യശാസ്ത്ര ബിരുദത്തിന് പഠിക്കുകയും ആൻ അർബറിലെ മിഷിഗൺ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിലെ മെഡിക്കൽ വിദ്യാലയത്തിൽ പ്രവേശനം നേടുകയും ചെയ്തു.[5][6] 1874-ൽ ബിരുദം നേടിയ അവർ, അമേരിക്കൻ ഐക്യനാടുകളിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ വനിതാ ഡോക്ടർമാരിൽ ഒരാളായി.[7] താമസിയാതെ, അവർ ഐയവയിലെ ഡൂബക്കിലേക്ക് മാറുകയും അവിടെ 36 വർഷക്കാലം വൈദ്യശാസ്ത്രം പരിശീലിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. പ്രസവചികിത്സയിൽ വൈദഗ്ദ്ധ്യം നേടിയ അവർ ഒരിക്കൽ കുറിച്ചു, "ഞാൻ ഒരിക്കലും ഒരു അമ്മയായിരുന്നില്ല, പക്ഷേ 1000 കുട്ടികളെ ഈ ലോകത്തിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു."[8]
അവിവാഹിതരായ അമ്മമാർക്കും അവരുടെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങൾക്കും അഭയവും പിന്തുണയും നൽകുന്നതിനായി 1896-ൽ ഹിൽ വുമൺസ് റെസ്ക്യൂ സൊസൈറ്റി ഓഫ് ഡൂബക്ക് സ്ഥാപിച്ചു.[9] 1909 വരെ അവൾ സംഘടനയിൽ ഏർപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു, സാമ്പത്തിക പരാധീനതകളും പ്രായക്കൂടുതൽ അലട്ടിയതിൻറേയും ഫലമായി പാർപ്പിട സൗകര്യം അടച്ചുപൂട്ടാൻ അവർ നിർബന്ധിതയായി.[10] 1914-ൽ അന്ന ബ്ലാഞ്ചെ കുക്ക് ഹിൽക്രസ്റ്റ് ഡീക്കനെസ് ഹോം ആന്റ് ബേബി ഫോൾഡ് എന്ന പേരിൽ ഈ സൗകര്യം വീണ്ടും തുറക്കുകയും ഇപ്പോൾ ഹിൽക്രെസ്റ്റ് ഫാമിലി സർവീസസ് എന്ന് വിളിക്കപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.[11] 1919-ൽ അന്തരിച്ച അവരെ ഡ്യൂബക്കിലെ ലിൻവുഡ് സെമിത്തേരിയിൽ അടക്കം ചെയ്തു.[12]
മരണത്തിന് എഴുപത് വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് ശേഷം, 1989 ൽ അയവ വിമൻസ് ഹാൾ ഓഫ് ഫെയിമിൽ ഹില്ലിനെ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തി.[13]
