അസാമാന്യമായ ശക്തിയും ധീരതയും ഉപയോഗിച്ച് നിരവധി ഭീമന്മാരെയും ക്രൂരനായ രാജാവിനെയും കബളിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഒരു എളിയ തയ്യൽക്കാരനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ളതാണ് ഈ കാഥ. തയ്യൽക്കാരനെ സമ്പത്തും അധികാരവും നേടുന്നതിലേക്ക് ഇത് നയിക്കുന്നു.

മാർട്ടിനസ് മൊണ്ടാനസിന്റെ ഡെർ വെഗ്‌കൂർസർ (സി. 1557) ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള വിവിധ വാക്കാലുള്ളതും അച്ചടിച്ചതുമായ സ്രോതസ്സുകളെ അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കി 1812-ൽ കിൻഡർ-ഉണ്ട് ഹൗസ്‌മാർച്ചന്റെ ആദ്യ പതിപ്പിൽ ഗ്രിം സഹോദരന്മാർ ഈ കഥ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു.[1][4]
