ചരിത്രാതീതകാലത്ത് അതായത് കാംബ്രിയൻ കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ കടലിൽ കഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്ന ജീവികളാണിവ. ട്രൈലോബൈറ്റുകളുടെ ശരീരം പല കഷണങ്ങൾ ചേർന്നതാണ്. ഓരോ കഷണത്തിലും ഓരോ ജോടി കാലുകളുണ്ടായിരിക്കും. തലയ്ക്കുമുകളിലായാണ് ഇവയുടെ കണ്ണുകൾ. ഞണ്ടുകളെപ്പോലെ കട്ടിയുള്ള ഇവയ്ക്ക് കട്ടിയുള്ള പുറന്തോടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ട്രൈലോബൈറ്റുകൾ പലതരക്കാരുണ്ടയിരുന്നു. മണ്മറഞ്ഞുപോയ ഇവയെപ്പറ്റിയുള്ള വിവരങ്ങൾ ലഭിക്കുന്നത് ഫോസിലുകളിൽ നിന്നാണ്.
