കേരളത്തിലെ ഒരു അധിനിവേശ കൊതുകാണ് ടൈഗർ കൊതുക് (ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം: Aedes albopictus). ഫോറസ്റ്റ് ഡേ കൊതുക് എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന Aedes albopictus (Stegomyia albopicta)എന്ന ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമമുള്ള കൊതുകുവിഭാഗമാണിത്. കാലുകളിൽ കറുപ്പും വെളുപ്പും വരകളുള്ളതിനാലാണ് ഇവയ്ക്ക് ടൈഗർ കൊതുക് എന്നുപേരുവന്നിട്ടുള്ളത്. ചിക്കുൻ ഗുനിയ, മഞ്ഞപ്പനി, വെസ്റ്റ്നൈൽ വൈറസ്, ഡങ്കിപ്പനി തുടങ്ങിയ രോഗങ്ങൾക്ക് കാരണമായ വൈറസുകൾ ഇവയിലൂടെ പകരുന്നു[1]. തെക്കുകിഴക്കൻ ഏഷ്യൻ സ്വദേശിയാണ് ടൈഗർ കൊതുക്. 1967-ലാണ് ഈ കൊതുകുകൾ ഏഷ്യയിൽ തന്നെ ഇതരഭാഗങ്ങളിലേക്ക് വ്യാപിച്ചു തുടങ്ങിയത്. ആഗോളതാപനത്താൽ നിരവധി രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ ടൈഗർ കൊതുകുകൾ പെരുകാൻ അനുകൂല സാഹചര്യം ഉരുത്തിരിഞ്ഞു.
