ഇന്ത്യൻ ഗായികയായ സുമൻ കല്യാൺപുർ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ഉൾപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന ഢാക്കയിലാണ് ജനിച്ചത്.(ജ: 28 ജനു: 1937).പിതാവായ ശങ്കർ റാവു ഹേമാദി കർണ്ണാടകയിലെ ഉഡുപ്പി സ്വദേശിയായിരുന്നു. മുംബെയിൽ എത്തിച്ചേർന്ന സുമൻ ഉസ്താദ് ഖാൻ അബ്ദുൾ റഹ്മാൻ, ഗുരുജി നവരംഗ് എന്നിവരുടെ ശിക്ഷണത്തിൽ സംഗീതം അഭ്യസിച്ചു. ചലച്ചിത്രരംഗത്ത് ഒട്ടേറെ സംഗീതസംവിധായകരുടെ നിർദ്ദേശത്തിൽ ഗാനങ്ങൾ ആലപിച്ച സുമന്റെ ശബ്ദത്തിന് ലതാമങ്കേഷ്കറുടെ ശബ്ദവുമായി അതിശയകരമായ സാമ്യം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. പത്തിലേറെ ഭാഷകളിൽ സുമൻ ഗാനമാലപിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

• "Aajkal Tere Mere Pyaar Ke Charche" from Brahmachari, which was one of her most famous songs, is usually thought to be sung by Lata Mangeshkar but it was in fact sung by her. (The confusion results from the fact that the quality of her voice is similar to Lata Mangeshkar's at times).
• "Aansoo ki ek boond hoon main" from Ek Paheli (1971) shot on Tanuja & Feroze Khan is a compelling number. Both the versions are beautifully sung.
