ഉത്തരാഖണ്ഡിലൂടെ ഒഴുകുന്ന ഒരു ഹിമാലയൻ നദിയാണ് ഭാഗീരഥി. ഇംഗ്ലീഷ്:Bhāgīrathī (Pron:/ˌbʌgɪˈɹɑːθɪ/) ഗംഗയുടെ ഒരു പ്രധാന പോഷകനദിയാണ് ഭാഗീരഥി. ഗംഗോത്രി ഹിമാനിയിലെ ഗോമുഖിൽ നിന്ന് ഉദ്ഭവിക്കുന്ന ഭാഗീരഥിയും, അളകനന്ദയും ദേവപ്രയാഗിൽ വെച്ച് കൂടിച്ചേർന്നാണ് ഗംഗാനദി പ്രയാണം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത്. ഹൈന്ദവരുടെ ഒരു പുണ്യനദി കൂടിയാണ് ഭാഗീരഥി.
പേരിനു പിന്നിൽ[തിരുത്തുക]
ഗംഗാനദിയെ സ്വർഗത്തിൽനിന്നും ഭൂമിയിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവന്ന ഭഗീരഥ ഋഷിയുടെ നാമത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഭാഗീരഥി എന്ന പേര് ഉദ്ഭവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.[2]
