ഈ.കൊളായി (Escherichia coli /[invalid input: 'icon']ˌɛʃəˈrɪkiə ˈkl/; commonly abbreviated E. coli; named after Theodor Escherich) എന്ന റോഡ്‌ ആകൃതിയിൽ ഉള്ള ഈ ഗ്രാം നെഗറ്റീവ് ബാക്ടീരിയ, ഉഷ്ണ രക്തമുള്ള ജീവികളുടെ താഴേ-കുടലിൽ സാധാരണയായി കണ്ടുവരുന്നു. പല ഇനങ്ങളും ഉപദ്രവകാരികളല്ല. എന്നാൽ , ഇതിന്റെ 0157 എന്ന സെരോ ഇനം (serotype) മാരകമായ ഭക്ഷ്യ വിഷബാധക്ക് കാരണക്കാരനാകാറൊണ്ട്.[1][2]. ഉപദ്രവകരമാല്ലാത്ത ഇനങ്ങൾ, ആതിധേയന്റെ ദഹന വ്യവസ്ഥയിൽ ഒരു പങ്കാളിയായി വസിച്ച് ജീവകം-കെ സംഭാവന ചെയ്യുന്നു. 2,[3] അതോടൊപ്പം, മറ്റു രോഗകാര അണുക്കളുടെ വളർച്ചയെ തടയുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
