എന്നെ ക്കുറിച്ച് ഒരു പ്രസ്താവം വന്നതുകൊണ്ട് പ്രതികരിക്കുകയാണ്. ഓടിയൊളിച്ചു എന്നത് പരോക്ഷമായി ശരിയാണ്. കാരണം ഞാൻ മനസ്സിലാക്കിയ വിക്കിപീഡിയ ഇപ്പോൾ നിങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നതല്ല. ശ്രദ്ധേയതയുള്ള ഒരു വിഷയത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് തനിക്കറിയാവുന്നത്, തനിക്ക് ചെയ്യാവുന്നത് സംഭാവന ചെയ്യാവുന്ന ഒരു ഇടം. അങ്ങനെ പല മുളകളാൽ വലുതാകുന്ന ഒരു കാട്. അതാണ് എന്റെ മനസ്സിലെ വിക്കിപീഡിയ. അങ്ങനെ സംഭാവന ചെയ്യുന്നതിനു സൈൻ ഇൻ പോലും ചെയ്യേണ്ടതില്ല. ആ സംഭാവന ചിലപ്പോൾ വിഡ്ഡിത്തമാകാം, അബദ്ധമാകാം. മറ്റൊരാൾ പറഞ്ഞതിനെ/എഴുതിയതിനെ അവലംബമാക്കി ചെയ്യുമ്പോൽ സാഭാവികം. ഒരാൾ എഴുതിയ ലേഖനത്തിലേക്ക് തിരുത്തിയോ കൂട്ടിച്ചേർത്തോ അടുത്ത ആൾക്ക് സംഭാവൻ ചെയ്യാം. ആ ലേഖനത്തെ മെച്ചപ്പെടുത്താൻ എന്ന മനോഭാവമാണ് പ്രധാനം. അങ്ങനെ മനുഷ്യന്റെ നന്മയിലും നിർമ്മാണാത്മക പ്രവൃത്തികളിലും അധിഷ്ഠിതമാണ് വിക്കിപീഡിയ. വിക്കി പീഡിയയിൽ ആർക്കും തിരുത്താം. പുഷ്ടിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു എന്ന ഭാവത്തിൽ അധിഷ്ഠിതമാണത് ഞാൻ ചെയ്തതിൽ/ചെയ്യുന്നതിൽ നശീകരണത്തിന്റെ ഒരു ശതമാനം പോലും ഇല്ലെന്നും എനിക്ക് ഉറപ്പാണ്. കുറവുകളും കുറ്റങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടാകും. ഉണ്ടാകണം. വിക്കിപീഡിയയിലെ ഓരോ മാറ്റവും മറ്റൊരാൾക്ക് തിരുത്താനുള്ളതാണ് എന്ന ഉത്തമബോധ്യത്തോടെ ആണ്.

വേറൊരുതരം എഴുത്തുണ്ട്. ഞാൻ ഒരു ലേഖനം എഴുതുന്നു. അത് എന്റെ ആണ്. അത് ആരും തിരുത്താൻ വരില്ല. അതുകൊണ്ട് അതിൽ കുറ്റം ഉണ്ടാകരുത്. പരിപൂർണ്ണമാകണം. സമഗ്രമാകണം. വിക്കിപീഡിയയിൽ അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യണമെന്ന് ഞാൻ കരുതുന്നില്ല.
പിന്നെ മീനാക്ഷിയെ പോലെ അശ്രാന്ത പരിശ്രമം ചെയ്യുന്നവരുടെ കുറ്റങ്ങൾ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാണിക്കണം. ഉത്സാഹം വർദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നതരത്തിൽ. നിരുത്സാഹപ്പെടുത്തിയാൽ വിക്കി പീഡിയക്ക് അതുകൊണ്ട് ലാഭമോ നഷ്ടമോ? പരസ്പരം നിരുത്സാഹപ്പെടുത്താൻ ആർക്കെങ്കിലും അവകാശമുണ്ടോ. ഒരാളുടെ സംഭാവനയെ വിലയിരുത്താൻ മറ്റുള്ളവർക്ക് അവകാശമുണ്ടോ?
തർജ്ജമകൾ - അതാണല്ലോ ഇവിടുത്തെ വിഷയം. തർജ്ജമ ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ ഭാഷാ ശുദ്ധി ഇല്ല. അംഗീകരിക്കുന്നു. അത് ആർക്ക് വേണമെങ്കിലും ചെയ്യാം. ചെറുതായ തിരുത്തലുകൾ കണ്ടാൽ തിരുത്താം. മോശമെന്ന് തോന്നുന്ന ഭാഗങ്ങൾ അപ്പടി കളയാം. പക്ഷേ ആ ലേഖനം തന്നെ കളയണം എന്നാണ് പലരുടെയും വാശി. അത് എന്തിനാണെന്ന് എനിക്ക് മനസ്സിലാകുന്നില്ല. ഒരു താൾ ഇല്ലാതാക്കണമെങ്കിൽ അതിൽ സ്വീകരിക്കാവുന്ന ഭാഗം ഒട്ടും ഇല്ലെന്ന് ഉറപ്പാക്കേണ്ടതില്ലേ? അതൊരാളുടെ സംഭാവനയല്ലെ. അതിനു ഒരു വിലയില്ലെ?
പല തവണ പറഞ്ഞ് കഴിഞ്ഞതാണ് ഒരു പാരഗ്രാഫ് എങ്കിലും ഒരു താളിൽ നിലനിറുത്താമെങ്കിൽ ആ ലേഖനത്തെ അതിലേക്ക് ചുരുക്കി നിലനിർത്തി കൂടെ എന്ന് -പറ്റില്ലെന്ന് ശുദ്ധീകരണ വാശി. ഓരോ തിരുത്തിനേയും ഒരു വ്യക്തിയുടേ സംഭാവനയായും ദാനമായും കാണാൻ കഴിയാത്തതാണ് അതിന്റെ പ്രശ്നം. വിക്കി പീഡിയയിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നതിനു ആരും ആർക്കും ഒന്നും കൊടുക്കുനില്ലല്ലോ.
ഞാൻ എഴുതിയ ഒരു താളും എന്റെ എന്ന് അവകാശപ്പെടാൻ താത്പര്യമില്ല. ആ വിഷയത്തിൽ എനിക്ക് അറിയാവുന്നത് എഴുതി. എനിക്ക് കഴിയുന്ന പോലെ. അത് മറ്റുള്ളവർ തിരുത്തുന്നതിൽ എനിക്ക് സന്തോഷമെ ഉള്ളു. ആ ലേഖനം ആരെങ്കിലും വലുതാക്കുകയോ ചെറുതാക്കുകയോ ചെയ്താലും എനിക്ക് സന്തോഷമേ യുള്ളു. ആ ലേഖനങ്ങളോട് ഒരു മമതയും എനിക്കില്ല. എന്റെ സംഭാവന എന്റെ ദാനം. ആ ദാനം കിട്ടുന്ന പശുവിന്റെ പല്ലെണ്ണാൻ ആരെങ്കിലും ശ്രമിച്ചാൽ ഞാൻ ദാനം ചെയ്യുന്നില്ല എന്നുവെയ്ക്കും. അതുപോലെ തികച്ചും ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ ഒരു വിഷയത്തിൽ ഞാൻ തുടങ്ങിവെച്ച ഒരു താളിനെ അതിലെ വള്ളിയുടെയും പുള്ളിയുടെയും വാക്യഘടന തെറ്റായ വരികളുടെയും പേരിൽ താളിനെ തന്നെ കശാപ്പുചെയ്യാനാണെങ്കിൽ... അധികാരങ്ങൾ നിർമ്മാണാത്മകമായല്ലാതെ വെട്ടിവെളുപ്പിക്കുന്നവരുടെ മുമ്പിൽ വെക്കാൻ എന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഒന്നും ഇല്ല. ക്ഷമിക്കണം.

Wikimedia Foundation Community Board seats: Call for feedback meeting

The Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees is organizing a call for feedback about community selection processes between February 1 and March 14. While the Wikimedia Foundation and the movement have grown about five times in the past ten years, the Board’s structure and processes have remained basically the same. As the Board is designed today, we have a problem of capacity, performance, and lack of representation of the movement’s diversity. Direct elections tend to favor candidates from the leading language communities, regardless of how relevant their skills and experience might be in serving as a Board member, or contributing to the ability of the Board to perform its specific responsibilities. It is also a fact that the current processes have favored volunteers from North America and Western Europe. As a matter of fact, there had only been one member who served on the Board, from South Asia, in more than fifteen years of history.

In the upcoming months, we need to renew three community seats and appoint three more community members in the new seats. This call for feedback is to see what processes can we all collaboratively design to promote and choose candidates that represent our movement and are prepared with the experience, skills, and insight to perform as trustees? In this regard, it would be good to have a community discussion to discuss the proposed ideas and share our thoughts, give feedback and contribute to the process. [Wikimedia Foundation elections 2021] Candidates meet with South Asia + ESEAP communities

Hello,

As you may already know, the 2021 Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees elections are from 4 August 2021 to 17 August 2021. Members of the Wikimedia community have the opportunity to elect four candidates to a three-year term. After a three-week-long Call for Candidates, there are 20 candidates for the 2021 election.

An event for community members to know and interact with the candidates is being organized. During the event, the candidates will briefly introduce themselves and then answer questions from community members. The event details are as follows:

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
