കരിമ്പുലി സാധാരണപുള്ളിയില്‍ നിന്നാണ് ഉണ്ടാകുന്നത്. എന്നു വെച്ചാല്‍ കരിമ്പുലിയും പുള്ളിപ്പുലിയും ഒന്നാണ്(ഒരേ ഇനമാണ്). പുള്ളിപ്പുലികളില്‍ നിന്നും കരിമ്പുലിയില്‍ നിന്നും കരിമ്പുലി ജനിക്കാവുന്നതാണ്. കരിമ്പുലിയുടെ കറുപ്പ് പൂര്‍ണ്ണമായും കറുപ്പ് അല്ല. വളയധികം ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചു നോക്കുകാണെങ്കില്‍ കരിമ്പുലിയുടെ പുള്ളികള്‍ കാണാവുന്നതാണ്.
ഇന്ത്യയിലും ഇന്തോനേഷ്യയിലും ജാവാ ദ്വീപിലും ഇവയെ കാണപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്. ലാറ്റിന്‍ അമേരിക്കന്‍ ജഗ്വാറിലും ഇത്തരത്തിലുള്ള വകഭേദങ്ങള്‍ ഉണ്ട്.
