കൊലയാളിത്തിമിംഗിലം[6][7] അഥവാ ഓർക്ക[8][9] (ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം: Orcinus orca) ഡോൾഫിൻ കുടുംബത്തിൽ വച്ച് ഏറ്റവും വലിയവയാണ്[8][9]. പേരിൽ തിമിംഗിലം എന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും ഇവ തിമിംഗിലങ്ങളുടെ ജനുസ്സിൽ പെട്ടവയല്ല. എല്ലാ സമുദ്രങ്ങളിലും ഇവയെ കണ്ടുവരുന്നു. മാംസഭോജികളായ ഇവ മീൻ, കടൽസിംഹം, തിമിംഗിലം എന്നിവയെ ഭക്ഷണമാക്കാറുണ്ട്. ബുദ്ധിശാലികളും മനുഷ്യരോട് നന്നായി ഇണങ്ങുന്നവയുമായ ഓർക്കകളെ പരിശീലിപ്പിച്ച് ചില സമുദ്രജീവി പ്രദർശനശാലകൾ ഇവയുടെ പ്രദർശനങ്ങൾ നടത്തിവരുന്നു.

രൂപവിവരണം

കറുപ്പും വെളുപ്പും ഇടകലർന്ന ശരീരമുള്ള ഇവയുടെ മുതുകിലെ വലിയ ചിറകിന്  ആൺ തിമിംഗിലങ്ങളിൽ 1.8 മീറ്റർ നീളം  വരെ ഉണ്ടാവാറുണ്ട്. കടുംകറുത്ത ശരീരത്തിൽ കണ്ണുകൾക്ക്‌ പിന്നിലായി ദീർഘവൃത്താകൃതിയിലുള്ള വെള്ളപ്പാടും മുതുകിലെ ചിറകിനു പിന്നിൽ ഇരുവശങ്ങളിലായി ചാരനിറമുള്ള പാടുമുണ്ട്. നെഞ്ചിനു വെള്ളനിറമാണ്. വശങ്ങളിൽ വെള്ളപ്പാടും ഉരുണ്ട തുഴകളുമുണ്ട്.ആണിന് പെണ്ണിനേക്കാൾ വലിപ്പവും തൂക്കവും കൂടും. അതുപോലെ മുതുകിൽ നീളക്കൂടുതലുള്ളതും നേരെയുള്ളതുമായ ചിറകുകൾ ഉണ്ട്.   

പെരുമാറ്റം

അഭ്യാസപാടവവും ജിജ്ഞാസയുമുള്ള ഇവ പലപ്പോഴും ബോട്ടുകളെയും മനുഷ്യരെയും സമീപിക്കാറുണ്ട്. അത്ര ശക്‌തിയിലല്ല വെള്ളം ചീറ്റുന്നത്. തിമിംഗിലങ്ങൾക്ക് പൊതുവെയുള്ള മറ്റു സ്വഭാവങ്ങളായ വേഗത്തിലുള്ള നീന്തൽ, ജലോപരിതലത്തിലേക്കുള്ള കുതിച്ചുയരൽ, വാൽകൊണ്ടുള്ള പ്രഹരം, തുഴകൾ കൊണ്ടുള്ള വീശിയടി മുതലായവ പ്രദർശിപ്പിക്കാറുണ്ട്.
