Apologies for posting this text in English.

As you people might be aware, Wikimania 2015 which is going to be held in Mexico from July 14th to 19th. We, the Indian attendees at Wikimania, would like to represent Wiki Indic Community booth in the same. We are creating Leaflets and Posters for the community village at Wikimania 2015 to display in Wikimania 2015. We would like to invite you to gather the content and design(optional) for posters (Sample) and leaflets (Sample) about the Indic language project of your choice. We will take care of printing and displaying the posters/leaflets.

The maximum dimensions for your poster are 36 x 48 in (91.44 x 121.92 cm). We suggest using the A0 paper size, which is 33.11 x 46.81 in (~84 x 118 cm). The contents of the poster has to be in English. Posters and leaflets based on all Indic language Wikimedia projects are welcome. The design should be a media file uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Please post the link to your content/design file on http://wiki.wikimedia.in/Wikimania_2015/Booth/Posters_Leaflets before 25th of June. Train-the-Trainer and MediaWiki Training: Capacity building initiatives for the Wikimedia community

Like the previous years [1][2] CIS-A2K is planning for a capacity building activity for the Indic-language Wikimedia communities this year. This 3-4 day event, that is planned to be organized in Bengaluru, will include several parallel training sessions. The general sessions will broadly include:

• How to conduct Wikimedia outreach (workshops, GLAM activities, edit-a-thons)
• Ways to groom new contributors
• Advanced Wikipedia editing and Wikipedia policy and guidelines

Similarly, the MediaWiki training will include:

• MediaWiki - installation, analysis, understanding
• Working with MediaWiki
• How bots work on Wikimedia projects with an emphasis on pywikibot
• Bug triage, bug life cycle, raising a bug, fixing a bug
• General overview of FOSS, Openness, social media, Copyright, Creative Commons

We are looking forward to nominate yourself or nominate any other member of your community to participate in this event. We will be selecting the participants based on the community recommendation. We are looking forward to hearing your inputs on the program design and anything in particular that you would like to see.

Please note that the Wikimedians who have not attended the previous iterations of this training will be given more preference.

Train-the-Trainer 2016: Event details and invitation to apply

Greetings from CIS-A2K,

It gives us great pleasure to inform that the Train-the-Trainer 2016 programme organised by CIS-A2K is going to be held from 15-17 June, Bangalore.

Train-the-Trainer programme was conceptualised in order to bridge the gap between wiki volunteers/enthusiasts who would like to conduct off reach activities and have been discouraged due to non availability of resources and support. The three day residential event will include presentations by the participants regarding a plan to improve their wiki-projects, expert sessions about conducting effective outreach activities, best practices from the global wiki communities, revised grant structure of WMF, activities to understand WMF strategy and vision, understanding global metrics and coming up with a concrete plan by participants in association with A2K to improve their wiki-projects.

A2K invites Wikimedians to apply for this programme. Participants will be selected based on their on wiki and off wiki activities and their responses to the questions asked in the Google form. Selected participants are required to finish pre-work assigned to them without fail. I would happily make the required updates myself, but I would have to – at least temporarily – become an admin here to do that (because the relevant pages are in the MediaWiki namespace). I have already made these updates on a number of other projects, so it would be very easy for me to do this. If no one does anything, some JavaScript-related tools will break later this year. Wiki Loves Earth India 2016

Wiki Loves Earth (WLE) is an international photography competition on Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other project websites of the Wikimedia Foundation. Why Rio Olympics 2016 Matters for India

While India struggled to win medals, ending its tally with just two medals, there had been some spectacular performances. Abhinav Bindra, Jitu Rai were only marginally short at conceiving medals, while Saina-Bopana reached till the Bronze medal match, Depika Kumari lost to the world's best. At the most, Indian Hockey contingent reached the knock-out stage after so many years.

Wiki Speaks Your Language

Hello all and sorry for writing this message in English. It is my pleasure to inform you about the launch of the Wiki Speaks Your Language initiative with the goal of enriching the Wikimedia projects with freely licenced audio (and video) files documenting spoken examples of every language, language variety and dialect in the world.

The idea originates from the curiosity of many readers viewing language articles not only to read about the language but also to hear how does it sound. In most of the cases, our language articles lack such files and readers usually end up searching videos on YouTube, notwithstanding that we have the capacity as a movement and the resources to meet their wish.

The initiative lists three possible ways of acquiring the freely licenced audio (and video) files: 1) by adapting existing audio and video files on Wikimedia Commons (mostly from the Spoken Wikipedia projects), 2) by liberating existing audio and video files from the repositories of GLAM and educational institutions, and 3) by engaging Wikimedia communities, GLAM and educational institutions in the recording of new audio and video files.

In the first phase of the initiative, the easiest way to start is by working with the resources we already have and therefore my proposal and kind request to the Malayalam Wikipedia community is to get involved in adapting existing videos from the Spoken Wikipedia project. There are some useful tips on what the existing files should be adapted to. The adapted files should be categorised under "Category:Wiki Speaks Malayalam", tagged with WSYL template and added to the list of languages.

It gives us great pleasure to inform that the Train-the-Trainer (TTT) 2017 programme organised by CIS-A2K is going to be held from 20-22 February 2017.

What is TTT?
Train the Trainer or TTT is a residential training program. The program attempts to groom leadership skills among the Indian Wikimedia community members. Earlier TTT have been conducted in 2013, 2015 and 2016.

Who should join?

• Any active Wikimedian contributing to any Indic language Wikimedia project is eligible to apply.
• An editor must have 500+ edits.
• Anyone who have already participated in an earlier iteration of TTT, can not apply.

Train-the-Trainer 2017 and Malayalam Wikipedia representation

You may be aware that Train-the-Trainer (TTT) 2017 will be conducted between 20 and 23 February in Bangalore. TTT attempts to groom leadership skills among the Indian Wikimedia community members. We have received applications from all over India, and even from outside of the country. We are delighted to inform you that we have got a very good number of applications from Malayalam Wikipedia. As we have received a large number of good applications from the Malayalam Wikipedia, it is becoming difficult for us to select the best candidates. We think the experienced Wikipedians of this Wikipedia may help to select the best participants.

Therefore, we are requesting the active and experienced Wikipedians of this community to suggest two participants from the applicants' list below, who you think, should participate in TTT 2017. Please read this page for more details about requirement and event details.

If the applications from Malayalam Wikipedia community is larger than the decided list, you can just reject my application, all of the other persons from the applications are really best workers of the community, checking the edit history of person is the best way to select. I thought that you may get the proper applications from the list itself now, you can easily check the editing history of person from the list and select according to the total edit counts, its better if more than two applications are there in the waiting list to select, or you can find the appropriate applications to ask malayalam wiki adimins mailing list, they will select two persons from the rest list. Brief translation in English

As part of the Global Wikimedia 2030 strategy development, the Malayalam Wkimedia Community is planning to conduct a consultation meet-up at tentatively around July 20th, in which prominent representatives from educational / GLAM institutions, academics, media and active Wikimedia communities are expected to participate. We are also looking at the possibility of conducting a whole day Wikipedia Workshop for interested senior students and research scholars from Kerala University and other potential future Wikimedians. Part of the expenses are expected to be reimbursed by Wikimedia Foundation by way of a Rapid financial Grant. All community members and active users are requested to endorse this event plan at the earliest. Thank you.
