Romancing the Stone (1984),Prizzi's Honor (1985) എന്നീ ചിത്രങ്ങളിലെ അഭിനയത്തിന് മികച്ച അഭിനേത്രിക്കുള്ള ഗോൾഡൻ ഗ്ലോബ് അവാർഡ് നേടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. 1980 കളുടെ ഒടുക്കവും 1990 കളുടെ ആരംഭത്തിലും. പഴയകാല ജീവിതം
1954 ജൂണ് മാസം 19 ന് മിസോറിയിലെ സ്പ്രിംഗ് ഫീൽഡിൽ പാറ്റ്സിയുടെയും അല്ലൻ റിച്ചാർഡ് ടർണറുടെയും മകളായി ജനിച്ചു. അച്ഛൻ യു.എസ്. ഫോറിൻ സർവ്വീസിലെ ഓഫീസറായിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം വളർന്നതു ചൈനയിലായിരുന്നു.
പിതാവ് ഫോറിൻ സർവ്വീസിലായിരുന്നതിനാൽ ടർണറുടെ ബാല്യകാലം വിദേശങ്ങളിലായിരുന്നു. 1972 ൽ അമേരിക്കൻ സ്കൂൾ ഇൻ ലണ്ടനിൽ നിന്ന് ബിരുദമെടുത്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. പിതാവിന്റെ മരണത്തിനു ശേഷം കുടുംബം അമേരിക്കയിലേയ്ക്കു തിരിച്ചു വന്നു.
