കെനിയയുടെയും സൊമാലിയ യുടെയും അതിർത്തിയിലെ ഊഷരമായ പുൽപ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരുതരം മാൻ ആണ് ഹിരോള. Beatragus hunteri എന്ന ശാസ്ത്ര നാമത്തിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഇതിനെ Hunter's hartebeest , "Hunter's antelope" എന്നും വിളിക്കുന്നു. 1888 ൽ ജന്തുശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞൻ ആയ എച്ച്.സി.വി. ഹണ്ടർ ആണ് ഇതിനെ ശാസ്ത്രലോകത്തിനു പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തിയത്. പഠനങ്ങൾ അനുസരിച്ച് 500 നും 1200 നും ഇടയിലാണ് ഇവയുടെ ആകെ എണ്ണം. [4]. ഗുരുതരമായ വംശ നാശ ഭീഷണി നേരിടുന്ന ഇവയ്ക്ക് വംശ നാശം സംഭവിച്ചാൽ ആധുനിക ആഫ്രിക്കൻ വൻകരയിൽ നിന്നും വംശനാശം സംഭവിക്കുന്ന ആദ്യ സസ്തനി ആയിരിക്കും ഹിരോള. [5]
