മുസ്ലീങ്ങൾ ജുമുഅ എന്ന നിസ്കാരം അനുഷ്ടിക്കുന്ന പള്ളികൾക്കാണ് ജുമാമസ്ജിദ് എന്നു പറയുന്നത്. ജുമാത്ത് പള്ളി എന്നും പറയാറുണ്ട്. ജുമുഅ എന്ന വാക്കിൻറെ അറബി അർ‌ഥം ഒരുമിച്ച് കൂടുക എന്നതാണ്. ജുമുഅ നടക്കുന്നത് വെള്ളിയാഴ്ചകളിൽ‌ ഉച്ചക്കാണ്. അന്നേ ദിവസം പള്ളികളിൽ ഉപദേശ പ്രസംഗം അഥവാ ഖുതുബ നടക്കുന്നു. ജുമുഅ ഖുതുബ നടത്തുന്ന ആളിനെ ഖതീബ് എന്ന് വിളിക്കുന്നു.
