അടിസ്ഥാന ബലങ്ങളെ ആസ്പദമാക്കി നടത്തിയ ഗവേണത്തിനു ഭൗതിക ശാസ്ത്ര നൊബേൽ പുരസ്‌കാരം നേടിയ പാകിസ്ഥാനി ശാസ്ത്രജഞൻ. അടിസ്ഥാന ബലങ്ങളായ വൈദ്യുത്കാന്തതയും ദുർബല അണു കേന്ദ്രബലവും ഏകവൽക്കരിക്കുന്നത് സംബന്ധിച്ച പഠനങ്ങൾക്കാണ് Sheldon Glashow, Steven Weinberg എന്നിവരോടൊപ്പം 1979ലെ നൊബെൽ സമ്മാനം പങ്കിട്ടത്. നൊബൽ സമ്മാനം നേടുന്ന ആദ്യ മുസ്ലിം വ്യക്തിയും ആദ്യ പാകിസ്ഥാൻകാരനും എന്ന ബഹുമതിയും സലാമിനുള്ളതാണ്.
