ഒരു ജർമൻ സംഗീതജ്ഞയും റൊമാന്റിക് കാലഘട്ടത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച പിയാനിസ്റ്റുകളിൽ ഒരാളായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ആളുമാണ് ക്ലാര ഷൂമൻ (Clara Schumann) (née Clara Josephine Wieck; 13 സെപ്തംബർ 1819 – 20 മെയ്1896).[1][2] 61 വർഷം നീണ്ടുനിന്ന സംഗീതജീവിതത്തിൽ പിയാനോ വാദനത്തിനെ ജനങ്ങൾക്കിഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട രീതിയിൽ മാറ്റിമറിക്കാൻ ക്ലാരയ്ക്കായി.[3] സംഗീതജ്ഞനായ റോബർട്ട് ഷൂമൻ ആയിരുന്നു ക്ലാരയുടെ ഭർത്താവ്. രണ്ടുപേരും കൂടി ജൊഹാൻ ബ്രാംസിനെ പ്രോൽസാഹിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു. ബ്രാംസിന്റെ ഏതൊരു കൃതി തന്നെയും പൊതുവേദിയിൽ ആദ്യം അവതരിപ്പിച്ചത് ക്ലാരയായിരുന്നു.[4] പിന്നീട് ബ്രാംസിന്റെ മറ്റു കൃതികളും, പ്രധാനമായി Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel എന്നതും വേദിയിൽ ആദ്യം അവതരിപ്പിച്ചതും ക്ലാര തന്നെയായിരുന്നു.[5]

1989 ജനുവരി 2 മുതൽ 2002 ജനുവരി ഒന്നിന് ജർമൻ മാർക്ക് യൂറോയ്ക്ക് വഴിമാറുന്നതുവരെ 100 മാർക് നോട്ടിൽ ക്ലാരയുടെ ചിത്രം ആലേഖനം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.
