എഡ്മന്റൺ (/ˈɛdməntən/ ⓘ ED-mən-tən) കാനഡയിലെ പ്രവിശ്യയായ ആൽബെർട്ടയുടെ തലസ്ഥാന നഗരമാണ്. വടക്കൻ സസ്‌കാച്ചെവൻ നദിയോരത്ത് ആൽബർട്ടയുടെ മധ്യമേഖലയാൽ ചുറ്റപ്പെട്ട് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ നഗരം എഡ്മന്റൺ മെട്രോപൊളിറ്റൻ മേഖലയുടെ കേന്ദ്രമാണ്.[തിരുത്തുക]

2021 ലെ കണക്കുകൾപ്രകാരം, 1,010,899 നഗര ജനസംഖ്യയും 1,418,118 മെട്രോപൊളിറ്റൻ ജനസംഖ്യയുമുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഇത് കാനഡയിലെ അഞ്ചാമത്തെ വലിയ നഗരവും[14][15] ആറാമത്തെ വലിയ മെട്രോപൊളിറ്റൻ പ്രദേശവും (CMA) ആയിരുന്നു.[16][17] ഒരു ദശലക്ഷത്തിലധികം ജനസംഖ്യയുള്ള ഈ നഗരം വടക്കേ അമേരിക്കയുടെ വടക്കേയറ്റത്തുള്ള നഗരവും മെട്രോപൊളിറ്റൻ പ്രദേശവുമാണ്. എഡ്മന്റണിലെ താമസക്കാരൻ എഡ്മണ്ടോണിയൻ എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.[18] എഡ്മന്റൺ നഗരത്തിൻറെ ചരിത്രപരമായ വളർച്ച, 1982[19] വരെയുള്ള കാലഘട്ടങ്ങളിലെ കൂട്ടിച്ചേർക്കലുകളുടെ ഒരു പരമ്പരയ്‌ക്ക് പുറമേ, സമീപത്തെ അഞ്ച് നഗര മുനിസിപ്പാലിറ്റികളായ സ്ട്രാത്‌കോണ, നോർത്ത് എഡ്മന്റൺ, വെസ്റ്റ് എഡ്മന്റൺ , ബെവർലി, ജാസ്‌പർ പ്ലേസ്[20] എന്നിവ ആഗിരണം ചെയ്തതിലൂടെയും 2019 ജനുവരി 1-ന്[21] ലെഡൂക്ക് കൗണ്ടി, ബൊമോണ്ട് നഗരം എന്നിവയിൽനിന്നുമുള്ള 8,260 ഹെക്ടർ (82.6 ചതുരശ്ര കിലോമീറ്റർ അഥവാ 31.9 ചതുരശ്ര മൈൽ) പ്രദേശങ്ങളുടേയും കൂട്ടിച്ചേർക്കലുകളിലൂടെയുമായിരുന്നു. വടക്കോട്ടുള്ള കവാടം[22] എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ നഗരം വടക്കൻ ആൽബർട്ടയിലെ വലിയ തോതിലുള്ള എണ്ണമണൽ പദ്ധതികൾക്കും വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറൻ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലെ വലിയ തോതിലുള്ള വജ്ര ഖനന പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾക്കുമുള്ള ഒരു വേദിയായിരുന്നു.[23]
