പ്രശസ്തനായ ഒരു സസ്യശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനായിരുന്നു വില്യം റോക്സ്ബർഗ് (Dr William Roxburgh FRSE FRCPE FLS (3 അല്ലെങ്കിൽ 29 ജൂൺ 1751 – 18 ഫെബ്രുവരി 1815). ഇന്ത്യൻസസ്യശാസ്ത്രത്തിൻറെ പിതാവ് എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.

1751 ജൂൺ 29നു ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിലെ ഐഷറിൽ‌ ജനിച്ചു. സ്കോട്ടിഷ് സർജനായി ഇന്ത്യയിലെത്തിയശേഷം സസ്യവൈവിധ്യത്തെയും കാലാവസ്ഥയെയും കുറിച്ചു പഠിച്ച് ഒട്ടേറെ സംഭാവനകൾ നൽകി. ഈസ്റ്റ്‌ ഇന്ത്യാ കമ്പനിക്കു കീഴിലുള്ള തോട്ടങ്ങളിൽ സൂപ്രണ്ടായി നിയമിതനായ അവസരത്തിലും ബൊട്ടാണിക് ഗാർഡനുകളുടെ ചുമതല നിർവഹിക്കുന്ന ഘട്ടങ്ങളിലും സസ്യസംരക്ഷണത്തെ ഒരു തപസ്യയായി അനുഷ്ഠിച്ചു. ഇന്ത്യൻകാലാവസ്ഥയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള നിരീക്ഷണ പഠനങ്ങളും ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്.
