വില്യം ഫോർസെൽ കിൽബി

William Forsell Kirby

ഒരു ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പ്രാണിപഠനശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനും നാടോടീവിജ്ഞാനീയനും ആയിരുന്നു വില്യം ഫോർസെൽ കിൽബി(14 ജനുവരി 1844 – 20 നവംബർ 1912) .

ജീവചരിത്രം

ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിലെ ലീസ്റ്ററിൽ ആണ് അദ്ദേഹം ജനിച്ചത്. സ്വകാര്യവിദ്യാഭ്യാസം ലഭിച്ച അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ചെറുപ്പംമുതലേ ശലഭങ്ങളോട് താല്പര്യമായിരുന്നു. തുടർന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കുടുംബം ബ്രൈറ്റണിലേക്ക് താമസം മാറ്റുകയും അവിടെവച്ചു അദ്ദേഹം ഹെന്ററി കുക്ക്, പ്രെഡറിക് മെറിഫീൽഡ്, ജെ.എൻ. വിന്റർ എന്നിവരുമായി സൗഹൃദത്തിലാവുകയും ചെയ്തു. അദ്ദേഹം 1862-ൽ മാനുവൽ ഓഫ് യൂറോപ്യൻ ബട്ടർഫ്ലൈസ് (Manual of European Butterflies) എന്ന ഗ്രന്ഥം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു.

1867-ൽ അദ്ദേഹം അയർലന്റ് നാച്ചുറൽ ഹിസ്റ്ററി മ്യൂസിയത്തിന്റെ പരിപാലകനാവുകയും 1871-ൽ Synonymic Catalogue of Diurnal Lepidoptera എന്ന ഗ്രന്ഥം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. 1877-ൽ അതിന്റെ ഒരു അനുബന്ധവും പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു.

1879-ൽ അദ്ദേഹം ലണ്ടൻ നാച്ചുറൽ ഹിസ്റ്ററി മ്യൂസിയത്തിൽ ഒരു ജോലിക്കാരനായി ചേർന്നു. തുടർന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം ധാരാളം വിവരപ്പട്ടികകളും Rhopalocera Exotica (1887–1897), Elementary Text-book of Entomology. എന്നീ പുസ്തകങ്ങളും എഴുതി. അദ്ദേഹം orthopteroid പ്രാണികളെക്കുറിച്ചു മൂന്നു (1904, 1906, 1910) വാള്യങ്ങളായി എഴുതിയ വിവരപ്പട്ടികയും വളരെ പ്രസിദ്ധമാണ്. 1909-ൽ അദ്ദേഹം വിരമിച്ചൂ.

വിവിധ ഭാഷകൾ അറിയാമായിരുന്ന അദ്ദേഹം ഫിൻലാന്റിന്റെ ഇതിഹാസകാവ്യമായ കലേവല ഫിന്നിഷ് ഭാഷയിൽനിന്നും ഇംഗ്ലീഷിലേക്ക് തർജ്ജിമചെയ്തു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ തർജ്ജമ ജെ.ആർ.ആർ. റ്റോൾകീൻ തന്റെ കൗമാരത്തിൽ വായിക്കുകയും അതദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പിൽക്കാലത്തുള്ള എഴുത്തുകളെ വളരെ സ്വാധീനിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. റിച്ചാർഡ് ഫ്രാൻസിസ് ബർട്ടൺ തർജ്ജമചെയ്ത അറേബ്യൻ രാവുകൾക്കും അദ്ദേഹം അടിക്കുറിപ്പെഴുതിയിരുന്നു.

2007-ൽ P. E. Bragg അദ്ദേഹത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു ചെറിയൊരു ജീവചരിത്രമെഴുതുകയുണ്ടായി.
