പുരാതന കാംഗ്ലെയ്പാക്കിലെ (പുരാതന മണിപ്പൂർ) മതത്തിലും മെയ്തേയ് പുരാണങ്ങളിലും കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ജലം, മഴ, വെള്ളപ്പൊക്കം, രോഗം, അസ്വാസ്ഥ്യം എന്നിവയുടെ ദേവനാണ് വാങ്‌പുലെൻ (വാങ്‌പുരെൻ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ വാങ്‌ബറേൻ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ വാങ്‌ബ്രേൻ). വാങ്‌പുരെൻ ജലാന്തർഭാഗത്തുള്ള ലോകത്തിന്റെ അധിപനാണ്.[1][2][4] [5]വാങ്‌പുലെൻ നദികളുടെ രക്ഷകനാണ്.[5][6]തെക്ക് കിഴക്ക് ദിശയുടെ രക്ഷാകർതൃത്വം വാങ്‌ബ്രെന്നും മറ്റ് ദിശകൾ കൂപാലു (വടക്ക് പടിഞ്ഞാറ്), മാർജിംഗ്(വടക്ക് കിഴക്ക്), താങ്‌ജിംഗ് (തെക്ക് പടിഞ്ഞാറ്) എന്നിവയിലേക്കും സൂചിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.[5][7] അദ്ദേഹം ഉമാങ് ലൈസിൽ ഒരാളാണ്.[8][9]വാങ്‌പുലെൻ ഉമാങ് ലൈസിൽ [10][11]ഒരാളാണ്.
അനൽ ഖുള്ളൻ ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ ഒരു സ്ത്രീയെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചതിന് അനൽ ഗോത്രവുമായി (അനൻ ഗോത്രം) വാങ്‌പുലെന് ശക്തമായ ബന്ധമുണ്ട്.[12][13]അദ്ദേഹത്തിനായി സമർപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ട ആരാധനാ കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിൽ, സുഗ്‌നുവിലുള്ളത് മൈതേയ് ദേവാലയത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രാധാന്യമർഹിക്കുന്നതാണ്.[5][14]
