സ്കോട്‌ലാന്റുകാരനായ ഒരു ഇന്ത്യൻ സിവിൽ സെർവന്റായിരുന്നു സർ വാൾട്ടർ എലിയട് (Sir Walter Elliot) KCSI (16 ജനുവരി 1803 – 1 മാർച്ച് 1887). പൗരസ്തകാര്യങ്ങളിലും ഭാഷകളിലും വംശശാസ്ത്രത്തിലും വലിയ അറിവുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഇദ്ദേഹം പ്രധാനമായും അന്നത്തെ മദ്രാസ് പ്രസിഡൻസിയിലാണ് ജോലി ചെയ്തിരുന്നത്. എഡിൻബർഗിൽ ജനിച്ച ഇദ്ദേഹം ഹൈലിബെറിയിലെ ഈസ്റ്റ് ഇന്ത്യ കോളേജിലെ പഠനശേഷം 1820 -മുതൽ 1860 വരെ മദ്രാസിൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ സിവിൽ സർവീസിൽ ജോലി ചെയ്തു.

Anathana ellioti named after Elliot by George Robert Waterhouse, the genus name is derived from Tamil.
