പ്രധാനമായും തെക്കേ ഏഷ്യയിൽ കാണുന്ന, എന്നാൽ ഏഷ്യയിലും കിഴക്കൻ ആഫ്രിക്കയിലും വ്യാപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന പെട്ടെന്ന് എവിടവുമായി പൊരുത്തപ്പെടാൻ പറ്റുന്ന ഒരുതരം നച്ചെലിയാണ് വീട്ടു നച്ചെലി (ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം: Suncus murinus) അല്ലെങ്കിൽ Asian house shrew. grey musk shrew, Asian musk shrew, money shrew, house shrew എന്നെല്ലാം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.

എട്രുസ്കാൻ നച്ചെലിയുമായി ബന്ധമുള്ള ഈ വലിയ എലിക്ക് ശക്തിയേറിയ ഒരു മണവുമുണ്ട്.

ഐ യു സി എന്നിന്റെ ചുവന്ന പട്ടിക പ്രകാരം വംശനാശഭീഷണിയില്ലാത്തവയുടെ കൂടെയാണ് വീട്ടുനച്ചെലിയുടെ സ്ഥാനം..[2] ഇതിനെ ഒരു അധിനിവേശ ജീവിയായും കരുതിപ്പോരുന്നു. പല ദ്വീപുകളിലെയും ഉരഗങ്ങളെ ഇല്ലായ്മ ചെയ്തതിൽ ഇവയ്ക്ക് പങ്കുണ്ടെന്നും കരുതുന്നു.[3]
