യൂറോപ്പിലും മധ്യേഷ്യയിലുമായി അധിവസിക്കുന്ന ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ഒരു ഇൻഡോ-യൂറോപ്യൻ ഭാഷാ-വംശീയ വിഭാഗമാണ് സ്ലാവുകൾ.[24] ഇൻഡോ-യൂറോപ്യൻ ഭാഷകളുടെ വലിയ ബാൾട്ടോ-സ്ലാവിക് ശാഖയിൽ പെടുന്ന വിവിധ സ്ലാവിക് ഭാഷകളാണ് അവർ സംസാരിക്കുന്നത്. ഭൂമിശാസ്ത്രപരമായി വടക്കൻ യുറേഷ്യയിലുടനീളം വ്യാപിച്ചുകിടക്കുന്ന സ്ലാവുകൾ, പ്രധാനമായും മധ്യ, കിഴക്കൻ, തെക്കുകിഴക്കൻ യൂറോപ്പിൽ വസിക്കുന്നു. ഒരു വലിയ സ്ലാവിക് ന്യൂനപക്ഷം ബാൾട്ടിക് രാജ്യങ്ങളിലും മധ്യേഷ്യയിലും ചിതറിക്കിടക്കുമ്പോൾ[25][26] കുടിയേറ്റത്തിന്റെ ഫലമായി ഗണ്യമായ സ്ലാവിക് പ്രവാസികൾ അമേരിക്കകളിലുടനീളവും കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.
