1982ൽ സെയ്മൂറ് ഗിൻസ്ബെർഗിന്റെ മേൽനോട്ടത്തിൽ വടക്കൻ കാലിഫോർണിയ സർവ്വകലാശാലയിൽ നിന്ന് അബിറ്റ്ബുൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പി.എച്ച്.ഡി സ്വീകരിച്ചു. [10]

കമ്പ്യൂട്ടർ സയൻസിലും അനുബന്ധവിഷയങ്ങളിലും ശ്രദ്ധ കേന്ദ്രീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ഫ്രാൻസിന്റെ ദേശീയഗവേഷണഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ടായ Institut national de recherche en informatique et en automatique (INRIA) ലെ മുതിർന്ന ഗവേഷകനാണ് അദ്ദേഹം. Collège de France ലെ പ്രൊഫസറാണ് അദ്ദേഹം.
അദ്ദേഹം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത് ഡാറ്റാ മാനേജിംഗ്, ഡാറ്റാബേസ് തിയറി, ഫൈനൈറ്റ് മോഡൽ തിയറി എന്നീ മേഖലകളിൽ നൽകിയ സംഭാവനകളിലാണ്. ഫൈനേറ്റ് മോഡൽ തിയറിയിൽ അബിറ്റ്ബൂൾ-വിയാനു സിദ്ധാന്തം പറയുന്നത് ഫിക്സ്ഡ് പോയിന്റ് ലോജിക്ക് പാർഷ്യൽ ഫിക്സ്ഡ് പോയിന്റ് ലോജിക്കിന് തുല്യമാണെങ്കിൽ മാത്രം പോളിനോമിയൽ സമയം PSPACE തുല്യമായിരിക്കും എന്നാണ്. അബിറ്റ്ബുൾ 2011ൽ യൂറോപ്യൻ അക്കാഡമി ഓഫ് സയൻസിന്റെയും 2008ൽ ഫ്രഞ്ച് അക്കാഡമി ഓഫ് സയൻസസിന്റെയും അംഗമായി. അസ്സോസിയേഷൻ ഓഫ് കംപ്യൂട്ടിംഗ് മെഷീനറിയിൽ 2011 ൽ ഫെല്ലോ ആയി. [3]
