1841-ൽ പുറത്തിറക്കിയ ഒരു ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് തപാൽ സ്റ്റാമ്പാണ് പെന്നി റെഡ്. പെന്നി ബ്ലാക്കിനെ പിന്തുടർന്ന് 1879 വരെ ബ്രിട്ടന്റെയും അയർലന്റിലെയും തപാൽ സ്റ്റാമ്പുകളിലെ പ്രധാന സ്റ്റാമ്പായി തുടർന്നു. ആ സമയത്ത് ഡിസൈനിൽ ചെറിയ മാറ്റങ്ങൾ മാത്രമേ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുള്ളൂ. പെന്നി ബ്ലാക്കിൽ ഒരു റദ്ദാക്കൽ അടയാളം കാണുന്നതിനാൽ നിറം കറുപ്പിൽ നിന്ന് ചുവപ്പിലേക്ക് മാറ്റി. കറുത്ത റദ്ദാക്കൽ അടയാളം പെന്നി റെഡിൽ പെട്ടെന്ന് ദൃശ്യമായിരുന്നു.
