പുള്ളി മുള്ളൻ‌കോഴിയുടെ[2] [3][4] ഇംഗ്ളീഷിലെ പേര് Painted Spurfowl എന്നും ശാസ്ത്രീയ നാമം Galloperdix lunulata എന്നുമാണ്. പ്രധാനമായും ഭാരതത്തിലെ പാറകൾ നിറഞ്ഞ കുന്നിൻപ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും കുറ്റിക്കാടുകളിലും കാണുന്നു. ആണിന് കാലിൽ രണ്ടോ നാലോ മുള്ളുകൾ കാണും. പെണ്ണിനാണേങ്കിൽ ഇത് ഒന്നോ രണ്ടോ ആണ്. ഇണകളായോ കൂട്ടങ്ങളായോ കാണുന്നു. അധികവും ഓടി രക്ഷപ്പെടാനാണ് ശ്രമിക്കുക. അപൂർവ്വമായി പറക്കും.

ചെമ്പൻ മുള്ളൻകോഴി യ്ക്കുള്ളപോലെ മുഖത്ത് നഗ്നമായ ത്വക്ക് ഇല്ല. ആണിന് കറുത്ത വാലും ചെങ്കല്ലിന്റെ നിറമുള്ള അടിവശവും ഇരുണ്ട മേൽവശവുമാണുള്ളത്. മുകൾ ഭാഗത്തെ തൂവലുകളിൾ കറുത്ത അരികുകളോടു കൂടിയ വെള്ളപ്പുള്ളികളുണ്ട്. ആണിന്റെ തലയും കഴുത്തും കറുപ്പാണ്. പെണ്ണിന് കുറച്ചു മങ്ങിയ നിറമാണ്, ചെമ്പൻനിറമുള്ള പുരികവും ചെവിമൂടികളുമുണ്ട്. ആണിന് കാലിൽ രണ്ടോ നാലോ മുള്ളുകൾ കാണും. പെണ്ണിനാണെങ്കിൽ ഇത് ഒന്നോ രണ്ടോ ആണ്. കാലും കൊക്കും കടുത്ത ചാരനിറമാണ്. [5] വാൽ ചിലപ്പോൾ നേരെ മുകളിലേക്ക് പിടിക്കാറുണ്ട്.[6][7][8]

ഇവയെ രാജസ്ഥാനിലെ ആരവല്ലി റേഞ്ചിലും [9][10][11][12] മദ്ധ്യഭാരതത്തിലെ കുന്നുകളിലും i[13]) ദക്ഷിണ ഭാരതത്തിലെ പാറകളുള്ള കുന്നുകളിലും കുറ്റിക്കാടുകളിലും കാണുന്നു. പൂർവഘട്ടത്തിൽ ആന്ധ്രപ്രദേശിലെ നല്ലമലൈ ഭാഗത്തും കാണപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.[14]
