ഒമറ്റിഡിയം
(Ommatidium എന്ന താളിൽ നിന്നും തിരിച്ചുവിട്ടതു പ്രകാരം)
പ്രാണികൾ, ക്രസ്റ്റേഷ്യൻ, തേരട്ട തുടങ്ങിയ ആർത്രോപോഡകളുടെ സംയുക്ത നേത്രങ്ങൾ എന്നിവ നിർമ്മിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് ധാരാളം ഒമറ്റിഡിയം ഘടകങ്ങൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ചാണ്.[1] ഓരോ ഒമറ്റിഡിയത്തിലും ധാരാളം Photoreceptor cell-കളും അനുബന്ധ കോശങ്ങളും വർണ്ണകോശങ്ങളും അടങ്ങുന്നു.[2] ഓരോന്നും മസ്തിഷ്കത്തിനു ഒരു ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ ഒരു പിക്സൽ വീതം നൽകുന്നു. മസ്തിഷ്കം അവയെ ആധാരമാക്കി ചിത്രത്തെ വികസിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. ഒമറ്റിഡിയത്തിന്റെ എണ്ണം ജീവി അനുസരിച്ചു 5 മുതൽ 30,000 വരെയാകാം.[3][4]
