ഉക്രേനിയൻ നാടോടിക്കഥകളിലെയും പുരാണങ്ങളിലെയും ഒരു തരം സ്ത്രീ ആത്മാവാണ് മാവ്ക (ഉക്രേനിയൻ: Мавка) . മാവ്ക നീണ്ട മുടിയുള്ള ഒരു രൂപമാണ്, ചിലപ്പോൾ നഗ്നരാണ്, സാധാരണയായി പുരുഷന്മാരെ അവരുടെ മരണത്തിലേക്ക് വശീകരിക്കുന്ന പ്രലോഭന രൂപങ്ങളായി സാധാരണയായി ചിത്രീകരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.[1][2][i]
ടെർമിനോളജി[തിരുത്തുക]
ഉക്രേനിയൻ ഉൾപ്പെടെ പേരുകളിലും അക്ഷരവിന്യാസത്തിലും വ്യത്യാസമുണ്ട്: Мавка, mavka,[3] навка, navka,[4] нявка, nyavka.[5] എന്നിരുന്നാലും, പറയുന്നതിനെ ആശ്രയിച്ച്, മാവ്കയും ന്യാവ്കയും തമ്മിൽ വ്യത്യാസങ്ങളുണ്ട്. ഈ പദങ്ങളെല്ലാം പ്രോട്ടോ-സ്ലാവിക് *നാവ് 'ദ ഡെഡ്' എന്നതിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഉരുത്തിരിഞ്ഞത്, അവ ബൾഗേറിയൻ ഭാഷയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു:

ഈ പദത്താൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ആത്മാക്കൾ, അസ്വാഭാവികമായ ദാരുണമായ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ അകാലമരണങ്ങൾ സംഭവിച്ച പെൺകുട്ടികളുടെ, പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് നാമകരണം ചെയ്യപ്പെടാത്ത കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളുടെ ആത്മാക്കളെ പ്രതിനിധീകരിക്കുന്നു.[3]യുവാക്കളെ കാടിനുള്ളിലേക്ക് വശീകരിക്കുന്ന സുന്ദരികളായ പെൺകുട്ടികളുടെ രൂപത്തിലാണ് മാവ്കകൾ പലപ്പോഴും പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെടുന്നത്. അവിടെ അവർ അവരെ "അതിയായി വിനോദിപ്പിച്ച്" കൊന്നൊടുക്കുന്നു.[6]മാവ്കകൾക്ക് വെള്ളത്തിൽ പ്രതിഫലനമില്ല, നിഴൽ വീഴ്ത്തുന്നില്ല. ചില വിവരണത്തിൽ, കന്നുകാലികളെ പരിപാലിക്കുന്നതിലൂടെയും വന്യമൃഗങ്ങളെ തുരത്തുന്നതിലൂടെയും അവർ കർഷകരെ സഹായിക്കുമെന്നും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.
ന്യാവ്‌കയ്ക്ക് "തിരിച്ചുമില്ല", അതായത് അവരുടെ ഉള്ളം കാണാൻ കഴിയും.[ii] ഇത് മവ്കയും ന്യാവ്കയും തമ്മിലുള്ള പ്രാഥമിക വ്യത്യാസങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ്.
