മാരികോപ്പ അമേരിക്കൻ ഐക്യനാടുകളിലെ സംസ്ഥാനമായ കാലിഫോർണിയയിലെ കേൺ കൌണ്ടിയിലുള്ള ഒരു പട്ടണമാണ്. ടാഫ്റ്റ് പട്ടണത്തിന് 6.5 മൈൽ (10 കി.മീ.) തെക്കുകിഴക്കായിട്ടാണ് ഈ പട്ടണത്തിൻറെ സ്ഥാനം.[7] സമുദ്രനിരപ്പിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഉയരം 883 അടിയാണ് (269 മീ.). ഈ പട്ടണത്തിലെ ജനസംഖ്യ 2010 ലെ യു.എസ്. സെൻസസ് പ്രകാരം 1,154 ആയിരുന്നു. റൂട്ട് 166, റൂട്ട് 33 എന്നീ പാതകൾ പരസ്പരം സന്ധിക്കുന്നിടത്താണ് പട്ടണം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. 50 മൈൽ (80 കി.മീ.) നീളവും 15 മൈൽ (24 കി.മീ.) വരെ വീതിയിലുമുള്ള പുൽമേടായ കറിസ്സോ സമതലം മാരിക്കോപ്പ പട്ടണത്തിൻറെ വടക്കു പടിഞ്ഞാറായും യു.എസിലെ മൂന്നാമത്തെ വലിയ എണ്ണപ്പാടമായ മിഡ്‍വേ-സൺസെറ്റ് ഓയിൽഫീൽഡ് വടക്കും കിഴക്കുമായും സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നു.
ഭൂമിശാസ്ത്രം[തിരുത്തുക]
ഐക്യനാടുകളുടം സെൻസസ് ബ്യൂറോയുടെ കണക്കുകളനുസരിച്ച് ഈ പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ വിസ്തീർണ്ണം 1.5 സ്ക്വയർ മൈലാണ്(3.9 km2). ഇതു മുഴുവനും കരഭൂമിയാകുന്നു.
ചരിത്രം[തിരുത്തുക]
ഈ പട്ടണം സംയോജിപ്പിച്ച് കോർപ്പറേഷനാക്കിയത് 1911 ലാണ്. 1901 ൽ ഇവിടെ ഒരു പോസ്റ്റ് ഓഫീസ് സ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. മാരിക്കോപ്പ ഇന്ത്യൻ വർഗ്ഗത്തിൻറെ പേരിൽ നിന്നാണ് പട്ടണത്തിന് ഈ പേരു ലഭിച്ചത്.
